Jett

~~

My breath doesn't want to keep up as I run towards the cafe. I turn the corner to see Melody pacing back and forth.

"It's my fault, Jett. I'm so sorry." She cries. I walk over to her and pull her into a hug.

"When they want something they won't hesitate to get it. It is not your fault and neither is your brother's kidnapping." I tell her. Axel joins us and I make brief eye contact before looking down to the sidewalk.

"We'll find her." He promises. I sigh and my head falls onto Melody's shoulder. I stand with her for a few moments before taking her hand.

"Which way did they go?" I ask. She takes her hand away from mine and points in the direction they went.

"Did you say she was shot?" I ask. Melody nods.

"It was a quiet gun but she got shot in the side of the stomach and I was pushed away by these men with leather jackets and the Scarlet Cobra logo on the side of it. She was dragged into a red truck with tinted windows and they drove off. Like they did nothing." Melody explains what happened and Axel has a thoughtful look on his face.

"Please tell me, Axel. Please tell me you still have connections." I beg.

"Vaguely." He admits. I close my eyes and inhale slowly.

"Are they strong enough to get us through the gates without getting killed?" I ask. He nods slowly.

"I don't want to go back to this, Jett." Axel whines.

"Axel please, just this one thing. I need you to get me and Melody in and then you can leave. That's it." I beg.

"Fine." He hisses. He begins walking in the other direction.

"Where are you going?" I ask.

"Come on." He says. Melody and I give eachother hopeful looks and follow Axel. He walks in what seems to be circles before we end up at a small brick building.

"It's a shed." I say. Axel laughs.

"No. It's a base. Before I take you anywhere we need to find out where Tambre is." He explains.

"So we are going to find her in a shed?" I raise an eyebrow trying to hold back my laugh. Axel scoffs.

"No but if you don't shut up you are going to be found in a shed." Axel teases. Melody giggles and I smile, following Axel as he pushes open the doors. There is a bed in one corner and tv set up with a webcam on the top. A row of 3 computer sits on a desk with a  leather office chair waiting for work.

"Okay. I'm going to try and log on. If it denies me. Run. If it doesn't, we have a fifty fifty chance of getting your girl back." Axel explains. He takes a breath in and holds it as he types information in on the middle screen. He presses enter and the computer beeps. He lets his breath go as the other two screens load with information.

"You know how to read that all?" Melody asks. Axel looks at a black screen with green numbers.

"Binary code. Yes. They teach you how to read binary, da vinci code and other styles." Axel explains. His eyes scan the screen as he takes in all the information.

"Tambre is in the uptown base." He says.

"Okay. What part?" I ask.

"Basement level." He winces.

"Don't they go top to bottom and if you're at the bottom it's basically death row?" Mel asks. Axel nods.

"Why would she be immediately put on the bottom level?" I ask. Axel turns to the third screen and types on the keyboard for several minutes.

"Doesn't say but they just got her brother too." He reports.

"Eric?" I ask. Axel nods.

"Eric and Tambre Kalidas. Two remaining survivors from a hitlist made seven years ago." Axel reports again reading off of the middle screen.

"Why was the rest of the hitlist killed?" I ask.

"Low on quota. They needed targets. Wait a minute." Axel's voice cracks.

"What." I say.

"Tambre and Eric's parents were part of the Scarlet Cobras but they commited treason. They disobeyed orders. They were under hiding but were found the day they were killed. Their kids aren't collateral damage either. If either Tambre or Eric had kids, they're dead too. The Scarlet Cobras want to be sure that no one else can commit treason so they just kill them all. They kill off generation by generation until it's eliminated." Axel turns pale as he reads the information.

"Laura and Michael Kalidas. Sector 18. Mission Complete." Axel reads.

"What does Sector 18 mean?" Mel asks.

"It means that they were the gang owners right and left hands. They did everything down to shooting for the boss. The most trusted ones in the entire operation." Axel's voice turns to a slow whisper.

"They are never going to stop going after that family..." I swallow. Axel nods and shuts down the computer.

"You don't have a chance to get them back, J." Axel says. His eyes look glazed over and his face is pale. I hate to admit that he's right but they are probably already dead.

"Unless we shoot the leader." Mel suggests. Axel straightens and turns around pulling Mel into a hug and spinning her around.

"It's an agreed law of the Scarlet Cobras that if you shoot the leader that the entire operation has to be shut down even if your finger is in the middle of pulling the trigger. You stop, drop the gun and walk away." Axel shouts and jumps around.

"He's in a four meter cement room with no windows and atleast forty guards." I let off the information I know about how the leader is kept. Axel's eyes glimmer with an evil spark as he looks at me.

"Little brother. You have more that you ever expected." He says.

"What do you mean?" I ask adapting a small smile.

"I'm the bosses right hand."
