"Mom, I'm heading out. I'm going to Garrett's house." I stood by her door. She was putting away some of her laundry into her closet.
"Don't stay out too late. You have school tomorrow."
I nodded before walking down the stairs.
I got in my truck and went on my way.
When I arrived, I parked in the driveway and walked over to the porch.
"Garrett!" I called, stepping through his front door. "Garrett!" Maybe he was still sleeping.
"Quit yelling, you'll wake up the ghosts." He walked down the stairs, wearing sweats and a T-shirt.
"What?" I asked, eyes scanning his living room.
"I'm joking." He laughed. "What's up, Ryan?"
"Nothing. Just came over to hang."
He nodded his head, walking into the kitchen, while I followed.
"What time is it?" he asked.
"Like eleven in the morning."
"It's still early."
"Considering you wake up at ten?" I walked over to the kitchen island and sat down on a stool.
He shrugged his shoulders.
"Hey, still have any of the cake Roxy made you?" I asked, leaning on counter.
"So that's the reason as to why you came over." He turned, smiling.
"Yeah. That's the only reason I came over," I joked.
"I thought so," he joked as well. "Here." He took out the leftover cake from the fridge and placed it on the island counter. He sat down on a stool to my left.
I grabbed myself a plate and a fork. "Thanks," I replied, getting myself a slice.
I opened the fridge and took out the gallon of milk.
"Dude, you need to go to the store," I said, looking in the fridge. There was only milk, juice, a few water bottles, and a bag from Wing Stop.
I placed the milk on the counter and poured myself some in a glass.
"Yeah, I know. My parents keep putting money on my card, but I'm just too lazy to go to the store."
I shook my head, looking at him. "You'll go hungry."
"That is why they invented fast food and delivery services."
"Garrett."
"Ryan."
I sighed and drank some of my milk, sitting on the stool beside him.
"I want some now." He stood and grabbed himself a fork. He started eating the cake right off the platter. There was only one slice left.
I ate some of the cake from my plate. It was honestly the best chocolate cake I've ever had. It really was a special occasion when Roxy made them. First time I had some, was for Finn's birthday a while back. It's when I first started hanging out with them. We had ate it right after Roxy had made it. So it was really fresh. She had even made the chocolate frosting from scratch.
"Hey, still want some milk?" He held the gallon in his hand. There was only a little bit of milk left now.
I shook my head. "Nah. I'm good."
"Alright." He stood to grab a cup but then quickly turned around. "There's only a little left." He shrugged his shoulders, drinking out of the top.
Garrett's phone started ringing. He set down the milk gallon, wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, and grabbed his phone.
