A girl stares into a pond, dreams as a replacement to her reflection. It has always been this way and she believes it will always be. She has no choice in what is shown to her, but she has acquired a trust of the pond. It is her comfort when people fail.
She stares deeply into the water, a broken heart her reason for fleeing here to the pond. Tears prick the corners of her eyes. One falls. It hits the surface of the pond.
Ripples spread out, originating from the tear, then the surface stills.
The pond that once showed her dreams and her hopes is now as a mirror, her reflection revealed on its surface for the first time.
She sat, unmoving, heart still aching. Then, like a mirror, her reflection broke. A crack appeared, cutting jaggedly through her reflection. She watched as another crack appeared. Then another and another, each crack accompanied with the sound that is its name. It didn't end until her reflection was completely broken. She was silent for a heartbeat before she broke down, hands pressed to her chest and bent over her knees.
The pond, her reliable comfort, that had once showed her dreams, just showed that her fear of being broken was in all actuality, a true reality.
