(Part 2 of Falling to Pieces)
This was not how Grant expected his life to turn out.
Well, at least any kid couldn't imagine this, Grant thought as he tailed behind Skye, looking over his shoulder to see the two Aliens yelling at Coulson and May, telling them they needed to get to her, or in other words, to bring the half-alien (who also happens to be his ex-girlfriend) who now has powers to Azgard.
Definitely not one of the thoughts that passed through his mind before.Meanwhile the base was trembling and shards of glass and debris littered the floor as the pair stumbled to Vault D, where Grant planned to hide her until one of them will eventually find them. He won't let them take her.
Not even a year ago would he have thought this was possible. Yet the last few months have been filled with suspicion and doubt. While Skye has been slowly letting him in again she still seemed closed off to everyone else, like a coiled up spring that could release at anytime.
Sometimes he could see Fitz talking with her in quiet hushed tones while they thought no one noticed. But instead of listening in he decided that for now he needed to gain her trust. If she wanted to tell him, which he doubted she would.
But then today happened, and as if Skye was a hidden grenade, she exploded. The arguing that always went around her, the rising tension between everyone, Grant finally noticed, seemed to have wound her up before she couldn't take it anymore. Next thing he new he saw glass flying, scattering through the air like something crashed into the windows. But he caught on a split second after it happened.
It was Skye. Her face looked distraught, her hands held stiff at their sides as she watched the windows best around her helplessly. Naturally in a second he was by her side, looking to see if she was okay, then glancing up at the shocked expression of Coulson, who seemed to have had just made sense of the mess. Understanding what Grant was asking, he nodded and let him take Skye out of the room.
And then he ushered her quickly down the cold stone steps of Vault D. It was the last place he would want to be in any other situation, with its dark and blank walls that mocked him, reminding him of his darkest days...but at the moment there were more important things at hand.
"Skye? Listen to me," He spoke calmly over her staggered breathing AT she sat into his old bed, shaking uncontrollably along with the rest of the building.
"I..can't..stop," She sobbed, her finger nails digging into the mattress as she tried to control herself. The shaking persisted, overpowering Skye's attempts to stop it.
"Skye," he repeated her name again, this time crouching down so he was eye level with him. First things first, he thought, how will we calm down her panic attack? She met his eyes, but she still shook, her eyes wide with terror.
"I need you to try and breathe slowly for me, ok? We have to calm you down," Grant continued carefully.
He could tell she was trying her hardest, attempting to take big and slower gulps of air, but it still was no use. Her eyes were now filled with tears and e couldn't help but feel a pang in his stomach. The amount he would give to help her...
Then he remembered something. It was a crazy idea, but all things considering it could be the most normal thing to happen. I'll probably be punch in the face for this, Ward groaned in his head. But he would do anything. And this was their last resort.
Gently grabbing her face in his hands he brought his lips to hers, careful enough so that she could pull away if she wanted, but against all odds Skye held the kiss, recognizing the trembling of the base begin to subside.

Fanfiction"What I want is to stay here with you and imagine the world outside doesn't exist." Basically a bunch of Skyeward one-shots. They may be cheesy, but that's okay. (All characters belong to Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen)
