Violets POV
The next morning was yet another day of training before we had the week to ourselves and we're expected to practice. I woke up in just as bad as a mood as I did the day before and walked down the stairs in the outfit I had set up from the night before. I pulled my hair up into a ponytail and looked into the kitchen to see Henry, Lyla, and Elijah all talking just as I did the day before. They all looked at me and laughed as I rubbed my eyes. I looked at the clock to see that it was 15 minutes till training and that I might as well go outside and get a head start. I closed the door behind me when I walked outside and everybodies laughs and voices came to a mute and I was greeted with chirping birds as the sound of sprinklers. Wren was outside setting up the area that he would be working with somebody today.
"Hey stranger" his head peeked up and he looked at me. "Who are you working with today?"
He put down the bag that he was carrying and smiled at me. "You again I hope." I smiled and looked down at my shoes holding back a blush. I've known this guy for two days and he's already forward about the direction he wanted the two of us in. Not that it would ever get anywhere. He was my trainer.
"I hope so too." Wren smiled and looked behind me. I looked in the direction that he was looking in and saw Henry, Lyla, and Elijah with Jones following them. I smiled and I head Wren sigh behind me.
"Somebodies in a good mood." Jones smiled at me. He looked at everybody and all the trainers stood behind him. "Okay guys, good morning" Lyla smiled brightly at everybody. "I'd like to work with the same trainers as yesterday if that's okay with you." Wren looked at me and smirked. "I have a feeling that it will work well this way." Everybody looked at each other and we nodded silently in agreement to the plans that Jones had made for training today. "Then let's get to work." Everybody walked off to the stations that they were in the day before. I followed behind Wren and he seemed happier than I was about working together again.
"So we're going to start with the same thing as yesterday, as a warm up. To get it going. Then I have something a bit more rigorous to put on your mind." I nodded as Wren talked. In my head I was imagining every possible situation I could about what was going through his head and if it matched up with what was going on in mine. He turned around and picked up the same duffle bag that he had with him yesterday and opened it. Once again I saw the bottles and the gun with the bullets. Wren smiled as he held up the bottle and chucked it into the air.Elijah's POV
Jones stood on the opposite side of the field that the two of us had designated to work in. He was quiet and had a notebook that he was scribbling down notes it. I sat in the grass and politely waited for him to finish what he was going instead of interrupting. I watched as Lyla kicked down doors and used her keen ability of martial arts to fight, I watched Henry and he tripled himself and took on three different problems in three different areas but all of the clones seemed to be corresponding with one another.
I also saw Violet, who smiled as Wren talked to her once she was done focusing in on the bullet into the bottle. He was flirting with her. I watched as he said something and it put hands behind his head, smiling nervously and awaiting her response to what he had said. Most of the time she would laugh and you would see a signal of relief relish across his face. Other times it looked as though she was contradicting what he had said and he played of the situation by changing the subject of grabbing another bottle. I could tell that she knew it was wrong to be flirting with him. When he would draw his attention away from her she would look down in thought about what she was doing. Her face became more serious and she pressed her lips together. Once he looked back at her she would look back up at him and smile, going back to the attitude that she had before he had looked away from her.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when Jones touched my shoulder. "I had stuff to take care of." He claimed, trying to reassure as to why I sat alone in the grass for twenty minutes and watched everybody else use the abilities that they were made with.
I stood up and brushed the grass off of me with my hands and shook my head at Jones. "Don't worry about it."
He nodded and I watched as he drew his attention to once source and created a gleaming ball of light. "Are you ready to claim more orbs of darkness?"
I nodded and readied myself with the shadow energy available to me. "As if 36 wasn't enough."Violets POV
"So tell me about you." I said as I steadied the bullet around the rim of the bottle. As it dropped in I looked up at him.
"Aren't we supposed to be focusing on you, Vi?" He said, tilting his head.
"You're my trainer I want to know more about you."
He shook his head. "I guess you're right about that." He chucked another bottle into the air, and as the bullet soared above my head he began to talk about himself. "I'm 23 years old, and I've been with Jones since I was about 18. I was allowed to leave at the age of 20 but I didn't think I wanted to go back. I love the idea of being able to help solving things, and even though I don't have a mission anymore I'm able to help other people solve theirs by engaging with them." I didn't want to like him but I totally did. "Besides helping train people like you, in my free time I like to write." I looked at him and the bullet clanked into the bottle. "Is there anything else you'd like to know, Miss Violet?"
I shook my head. "Not at the moment, no."
"Then I have a question for you." The bottle flew into the air much higher than any time before it.
I focused on it as it got smaller as it went into the air. "Go for it." I brought my focus on it and began to bring it down.
I heard him clear his throat. "I'd like to know if you'd let me take you on a date."
I took my focus away from the bottle and looked at him. "What?" The bottle fell to the ground and I heard as it broke into pieces that I wouldn't be able to recover.
"Is that a no?" His face was harsh with lines of worry as he looked at me, waiting for a response.
"No." His facial expression didn't change. "Yes." He lifted an eyebrow. "No, I mean yes I'll go on a date with you." His face softened into a expression of relief.
It has been two days that I've known the guy and he already asked me out. My instinct in my head told me I shouldn't but I couldn't resist saying yes. I was curious about him, and he wanted to learn more about me.
"I want to know more about you." He said looking away with crimson cheeks. "I know there's more than a pretty face to you."Elijah's POV
Later that day we all sat in the living room and talked about what we had experienced from that days training. Violets face gleamed the whole time and she gave off an aura that could only be described as optimistic. She spoke with enthusiasm as she brought up the new style of training she did today, and when she was explaining how she accomplished the new training the lights in the room gleamed as she talked. She was giving off energy and didn't even realize it.
Once we were done talking Henry and Lyla set off into their rooms because they were exhausted from what they had to do. Violet stood behind to talk with me.
"So what's going on between you and Wren." Violet looked up and one of the light bulbs in the room shattered with light. "Also, we need more light bulbs."
Violet played off what I had asked her by making conversation about the light bulbs. "Stronger ones than what we have now right?" She laughed nervously.
"Violet." She looked at me.
She was hiding something. Her face said it all. "He asked me on a date."
My mouth took over. "That's not likely to happen."
She frowned and looked at me. "And why is that?"
"Because we aren't allowed to leave the house after dark and he's your trainer. I'm pretty sure that's breaking a rule."
"Were going to talk in the field." She said. She played it off like she wasn't snapping a rule in half. "I'll be literally within 100 feet from the house. You worry too much."
"You're my friend." I snapped back. "Not to mention you've known the guy for two days."
"It's not like I'm marrying him, Elijah." Violet stood up and got ready to walk away upstairs. "Its tomorrow night. I'll be back within an hour or so."
She walked upstairs and I sat in silence until I heard the door to her room shut. I knew that I didn't have a right to tell her what to do and I knew that he made her feel comfortable here. They were just getting to know each other. Worry filled my body as I thought about Violet leaving after dark tomorrow.
As I walked up the stairs to my room I looked back to the living room and sighed, the lights were still gleaming.
