My second relationship is where things get really interesting. I'm in my first year of college now. I don't like going to new schools, where I don't know anyone. But I forced myself to talk to people, because I can only eat by myself for so long. Soon I find a friend in a guy named Thomas. For the first couple of weeks in the semester I sat with him. Then he introduced me to two of his other friends: Isabel and Susan. Both were beautiful, but it didn't take long before I found out Isabel was engaged. So I set my sights on Susan.

She was exceptionally good looking. She had long blonde hair, captivating blue-grey eyes, and, probably her most distinguishing feature, prominent ears that stuck out a bit. I know that's a weird thing to think is attractive in someone. What can I say? I guess I've played too much Zelda.

I asked Susan out soon after we met. A bold move, or a stupid one? Time would tell. Amazingly she agreed to go out with me. However, we would never go on our first date.

It was now December, almost Christmas. She asked me if I thought we should exchange gifts. We hadn't had our first date yet, so I thought it would be a little weird, but she insisted it would be fine. Ok. I'm nothing if not agreeable. I asked her what she would like. "Oh, jewelry or something. Surprise me." This was new territory. And perhaps another mistake in the grand scheme of things.

So I go out and buy her a nice sterling silver necklace in the shape of a snowflake. I thought that an appropriate Christmas gift. I'm an easy man to please, so I told her she could get me something video game related. She did not disappoint. I received from her a GameStop gift card and chocolate. Which was fine. We still didn't really know each other at this point. However, soon after this, she breaks up with me. No warning, no indication of disinterest. She just drops a bomb on me. Apparently it was due to a "lack of communication" which, once I knew that was the problem, I quickly tried to remedy. Alas, to no avail. The die was cast.

We still talked, however, and I saw one day that she had posted something on Facebook. I don't remember exactly what it said, but it was along the lines of "If the world ends tomorrow, tell me a secret you wish I knew." This was December 2012, after all. Now I, like the fantastic idiot I am, text her saying I wanted to have end-of-the-world sex with her. Frankly, I'm surprised she responded to me at all. As anyone with a brain and a lick of common sense could figure out, this blew up in my face in spectacular fashion. She started yelling at me, I furiously backpedaled like I never had before; it was a whole long exchange that ended with me trying to explain that my purpose for dating her was not just to get in her pants.

By some miracle, she started talking to me after a couple of weeks had passed.
