He sighed as Sirius followed him out of the room smirking. Sirius with a smirk is never a good sign for anyone. As he turns expectantly to Remus, he rolls his eyes to hide the feeling of foreboding that comes with not knowing what he's up to. This better be good.
"Oi! Moony old buddy! You've been keeping things from me. How could you?" He cried, clutching his heart in theatrics.
Remus rolls his eyes yet again. "And just what have I been keeping from you?" he deadpans. Did he mean the fact that he got a new supply of chocolate from Molly?
"What have you-Remus! You haven't told me about your new lady friend. Come to think of it, though, she hasn't told me either..." He trailed off in his rambling.
He had his attention now. "What are you talking about? I'm not pursuing anyone, and I hardly think anyone would take the time to pursue me, unless you're forgetting about my, erm, condition?"
Now it was his turn to roll his eyes. "You make it sound like you're an old man, decrepit and crippled with my condition... Oh no, I broke my back, now no one can ever think I'm beautiful-" Remus interrupted what would have been the rest of a rather insulting rant.
"Sirius! I'm a bloody werewolf! And well, I'm not exactly young, am I? But it does not give you the right to make fun of me. You think I don't know it's pathetic? Of course I do! But unlike you, I have never had the luxury of getting all the girls, or even having extra money! And it doesn't help the fact that I may or may not like someone a hell of a lot younger than me."He wasn't sure who was more surprised at his outburst-Sirius-or Remus himself. But Remus wasn't finished yet. Turning on his heel before he could do something he would regret more than his speech, he made his fatal mistake. He looked back. The look on Sirius' face was priceless, and had Remus not been so fed up with him, he would've laughed. It isn't every day Sirius Black gets yelled at, after all. And it's definitely not the norm for Remus to do the yelling.
That was it. He lost it right there, laughing so hard he couldn't breathe. Remus hadn't laughed this hard in years. He bent over, collapsing into the chair behind him, unable to stand as he shook with laughter. When Remus could breathe again, he chanced a glance up at Padfoot. And nearly lost it again. The look of utter astonishment at his two outbursts was clearly too much for him to comprehend. His expression was a mix between shock, astonishment, humor, and concern. Eventually Remus couldn't take it anymore and laughed even more. It was hilarious really, him being stoic and well, Serious. I hadn't laughed like this since Hogwarts, when Sirius had helped James with his Lily problem....James. Lily. Suddenly Remus didn't feel like laughing.
Sirius must have noticed his change in emotions, because he glanced over at the lycanthrope expectantly, looking for an explanation. Moony sighed. What was going on with him?
Remus really didn't know what to say, so he decided to try the clueless approach, because honestly, that was how he was feeling. "What?" Remus deadpanned, managing to keep a straight face.
"Remus Bloody Lupin! What the bloody hell was that?"
He should've known playing dumb wouldn't work with him. Might as well stay with it now, though. "What was what, Padsy?" he asks in his best politely interested voice. He may have been the more behaved one, but you couldn't be a Marauder without knowing how to make a joke or talk your way out of trouble.
Unfortunately, Sirius knew the tricks too. Hell, he and James had taught them to him! "Cut it out, Remus! You know I can see right through you. Now. For the last time-what is going on with you?"
What happened next even he didn't expect. Remus grabbed Sirius' arm and spoke, softly, clearly,"mate, I-I think I'm in love."
Sirius recoiled and stared at him as though Remus had grown three extra heads. Then a smile broke onto his face, and he stared at him in all seriousness, and replied, "I knew it. And I bet I can guess who the lucky girl is!"
