When Nico woke, it was dawn. He groggily blinked his eyes open, not used to being up so early. He pushed himself up into a half-sitting position and blinked some more. He noticed a prone figure in the adjacent bed- Will.
But Will wasn't injured- oh. Nico realised with a warm feeling that Will had chosen to forgo his own bed and sleep in the infirmary to keep an eye on Nico. He lay on the closest edge of the bed to Nico, facing him.
It was the first time Nico had really been able to look at Will without it being awkward. His eyes traced over Will's sleeping features. He looked like he belonged in an art gallery somewhere, exhibited purely due to the perfect construction of his face...
Nico shut his eyes hurriedly. Did he really just think that? He tried to suppress the feeling but then stopped himself. Surely he was allowed his own thoughts? No one would judge him for what he was thinking to himself.
Carefully, he opened his eyes again. He'd already established that he was gay, and he should have known that once he got over Percy, he would eventually start finding other guys attractive. But after suppressing and pretending his identity didn't exist for so long, he still felt unused to the idea of admiring someone male and nothing tragic happening.
Of course, plenty of tragic things could still happen. Will was most likely straight as uncooked fettuccine. Even if he was gay, he probably wouldn't be interested in the scrawny, creepy death boy that was Nico di Angelo.
Nico wanted to punch himself in the face. It wasn't enough that Will actually wanted to be his friend. He had to wish for more. He should have been overjoyed to have a friend at last. Instead, the word 'friend' sounded like being downgraded.
Just then, Will woke up. Nico must have been scowling, because just then he heard Will yawn, 'What are you angry about now?' Nico quickly dismissed his thoughts.
'N-Nothing. Just frustrated about being bed-bound. I don't suppose you'd let me come have breakfast with everyone else?' He covered.
'Sure, why not. But afterwards, you're coming straight back in here, ok? Doctor's orders.'
Nico smiled to himself as he sprang off to get dressed.
'Now he's all cheery," Will muttered to himself. 'What is it with that guy?'
