I've been wondering around for thirty minutes. I don't have a phone, so I can't call mom. Besides, she's out looking for a job, and that's more important than me trying to find the apartment.
I turn a right and I see that creepy warehouse from yesterday. Luckily it was on the other side of the road. I look back and realize I have to go this way, it's the only way I haven't gone. I take a few deep breaths and start walking along the sidewalk. The roads are cobblestone, but the sidewalks are concrete. What is this? The medieval days?
I look forward and see two pit bulls who look like they want to rip someone's head off. They're chained, but it can reach close to the sidewalk. Okay, either I get eaten by dogs or walk by the not so good looking warehouse.
"This is ridiculous!" I say out loud. It's a warehouse, and I'm just passing by. It's not like I'm going inside or anything. I cross the cobblestone street and walk towards the building. There's graffiti all over and some of the windows are gone or cracked. Some of the metal siding is coming off the wall too.
There's a big grassy hill, a skate park, and then the warehouse. I was curious about the hill. The grass was really green and looked good compared to everything else on this street, or well, town.
I let my curiosity take over and I climb the hill. My breath caught in my throat. The view was amazing. You could see most of the town, and there was a big forest to the left. Maybe it's not so bad here after all. What looks like the main part of town looked a little bit more updated and won't fall down if a leaf hits it.
I descend back down and start walking along the road again. The skatepark looks like any skatepark would. Railings, half pipes, pool looking holes, stairs. The half pipes and the stairs were filled with graffiti.
As I get closer to the warehouse I can hear people inside. Who would even want to go inside? I'm almost to the end of the sidewalk and I hear a big smash. It sounds like glass was thrown to the ground.
I don't wait to find out and I take off running. I know from the all the horror movies to never look back. I take a left and go as fast as my legs can carry me. I take another left and run by many houses. I take a right and I couldn't believe my eyes. My apartment was right in front of me. All I needed was something to scare the crap out of me. I'm just glad I found it before it starts getting dark. I think I might just remember the way home now.
**********
School was somewhat better today. I wasn't late for any of my classes. Barbie wasn't there, and Mrs. Grouch didn't say anything to me. After school, I came back home. Which I found a lot sooner than yesterday. I dumped out my books and replaced them with my art supplies.
As I opened the front door looked down to see my mom asleep on the doormat. Did she decide opening the door was too hard? I leaned down and poked her in the arm. "Hey mom, you okay there?" She stirs a bit but doesn't wake up.
I wonder if the job hunt didn't go well? I picked her up and carried her inside onto her bed. Maybe it was more like dragging her, but hey, whatever works. I'll deal with her later I just need a break. I didn't know where I was going to go, but about anywhere is good.
I still wasn't sure where everything was in the town so I opted for the hill. It was relatively close and seemed peaceful. I climbed up and sat on the soft grass. I pulled out my supplies and looked around.
