"How about….a turtle?" Mordecai suggested.
Benson followed him round the pet shop, looking at animal after animal but none really catching his attention. They’d been in there for almost 10 minutes and the gumball machine just wanted to get back to their apartment. He shook his head for the millionth time.
"No," he said.
"Ok, maybe a dog? Dogs are fun." Mordecai looked down at a golden labrador.
"No. I’ve had a bad experience with a dog before and I don’t want something to happen again." He said aloud.
Mordecai shot him a guilty look, the memory clouding his mind, till he looked up and his eyes shone when he saw the perfect pet, something he knew both him and Benson would like.
"We could get a cat." The blue jay stated. He went over to the cage and stared at the kittens inside with aw. Benson stood beside him. He smiled.
"Aw they’re so cute." Benson caught Mordecai’s eyes and frowned. He sighed, trying to brush off his soft side. "Yeah I guess we could get a kitten. I mean they’re not gonna do any harm to the apartment, unlike dogs."
Mordecai smiled. He loved it when Benson got all soft. Benson rolled his eyes. “Go on. Get the stupid cat.”
A few minutes later, the two walked out with a small ginger kitten in Bensons arms. He closed his eyes and smiled, hugging the kitten close. Mordecai wrapped an arm around the gumball machines waist and Bensons eyes opened.
"You really are a softy aren’t you?" Mordecai smirked at him.
"Shut up," Benson mumbled, but he blushed nonetheless.
