SAMANTHA JAMES
"Do you really think it is a good idea, Barb?" Samantha asked Barbara as she helped her pick outfits for her trip.
"There is just a lot going on right now, Sam. I think this will help me relax a little. And when I come back, I'll be looking for a job", Barbara replied as she cleaned the mess that they'd formed in an attempt to pack.
"A job? You already have one", Samantha stated, a little surprised.
Barbara stopped cleaning the mess and looked at Samantha before saying, "I do, but I need a proper job."
Samantha was about to say something but she decided not to, not now at least. She didn't want to ruin Barbara's trip. Instead, she asked Barbara if she needed some money to go shopping when in Verona. Barbara turned down the offer politely much to Samantha's disappointment.
"Do you want me to order pizza?"
"No, I don't think I want to eat pizzas", Barbara replied.
"Okay. I'll prepare something for us to eat, you can continue packing your stuff but remember to show your outfits to me before finally locking up your suitcase. Who knows? Maybe you'll find someone there in some old castle!" Samantha said cheekily and winked at her.
Barbara shook her head and continued packing, she didn't want to meet someone or anyone who might be bad news. She knows how worried Samantha is for her, and why wouldn't she be worried? Barbara is 26, she must be mature enough, right ? But she isn't. Being the over protective elder sibling that she is, Samantha remains worried about her little sister at all times. They didn't share the same mothers, they were half-sisters, but that didn't affect them in any way. They shared a very close bond and loved each other with all their heart. Samantha had always protected her half-sister, Barbara, who had grown up motherless for thirteen years of her life until her step father had married Samantha's mother, providing both the girls with a father and a mother. It hadn't been easy for either Samantha or Barbara, in the beginning. But somehow, they seemed to find warmth and a sense of belonging in each other, creating sisterhood between them.Samantha was working on the tomatoes and pasta that she was making for them to eat, when suddenly, the doorbell rang and caught her off guard.
"Ow shit", she cussed under her breath as she examined her bloodied finger, "open the door, Barb."
"Are you alright?" Barbara asked as she walked towards the door and answered it.
Barbara was greeted with the sight of Adam, she looked surprised to see him but she didn't let it show. He hadn't talked to her since her birthday, the day he had ditched her in the restaurant. Adam was surprised to see her too, he looked unsure, he didn't know whether he should smile so he didn't.
"Who's it, Barb?"
"It's -"
"It's me, Samantha", Adam said interrupting Barbara.
This is all Samantha needed to hear to get her anger at its worst phase at the moment.
"HOW DARE YOU SHOW UP AFTER A WEEK LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED?!" Samantha screamed at Adam, making Barbara flinch.
A lump had formed in his throat as he replied saying, "I am here to apologise."
Samantha rolled her eyes and said, "Yes, you should apologise to Barbara for being such a douche!"
"Sam, it's okay, sto-"
"No, it's not okay, Barbara. I should say sorry for doing that to you on your birthday. In fact, I'm sorry for not being the perfect boyfriend that you've always expected me to be. I'm sorry for all those times when you thought you deserved better and I couldn't give you enough. I'm here today to mend it all", Adam said.
Barbara knew where this was going, she wished that the wooden floor would crack open and swallow her inside.

."Samantha, I love you."
