It was about five. The sun was setting and it was getting cold. I shivered. Tammy and Mairanni didnt look cold at all. We jogged up to the hill behind the school were the soccer and track field were. Tammy seemed excited. I was too. I wanted to see when they actually morphed. We got to the center of the field and saw that Hunter was already there. His morpher was around his right wrist like a watch. Dustin and Martin were there too. They smiled and Martin stretched. I rolled my eyes and snorted.
Hunter was the first to greet us. His outfit was just like Tammy's and Mairanni's. "Hey, guys. Glad you could make it. Martin here hasnt shut up about you." He chuckled and Martin gave him a scowl. I started to feel weird so I sat on the grass. I didnt care if I got grass stains.
Tammy chatted with Hunter about moving techniques while Mairanni agrued with Dustin about who would lead the first morph. Martin spied me and jogged over. I was ten feet away. He was out of breath when he came up to me.
"What's wrong, Vee? You tired?" He sounded worried. He frowned and his eyebrows furrowed. I forced a smile and looked up at him. My legs were crossed and my hands were on my lap.
"Dont worry 'bout me, Martin. Worry about your pracitce." I sighed. He didnt looked convinced but he walked back anyway. I got up and dusted my lap. It was time to start.
Hunter was in charge. I watched anxiously.
"OK, guys. It's time. Remember to give it your all even though this is practice." He shouted. Everyone nodded. The wind started to pick up and I shivered. I hugged my skinny arms around myself. The guys and girls got in a line. It was Hunter, Dustin, Martin, Tammy and Mairanni. I smiled. "Ready?" Shouted Hunter.
"Ready!" They all replied. Each Ranger sprinted towards the course. It was full of giant logs and ropes. There was a huge wall you had to climb. WIthout a harness. I swallowed. I hope they didnt get hurt. Hunter stopped. "Let's do it!" Everyone nodded and they raised their individual morphers to the sky and called on their animal spirits.
"Phoenix!" Said Hunter.
"Shark!" Said Dustin.
"Bull!" Said Dustin
"Eagle!" Said Tammy.
"Flamingo!" Said Mairanni.
There was a flash of light. There was no words to describe their uniforms. I though they looked great. I smiled really big. I felt kind of like an idoit. Like I had never seen them morphed before. I wiped the dumb smile. I started to zone out.
When would He get here? I wondered if he wanted to make a show of it. Maybe he was fashionably late. I sighed. It didnt sound right. Maybe I need to get away from school for a while. I answered my own question.
Naw. I just need to think thing more thoroughly. I just need to figure things out. Like how in God's name am I gonna pass the dang mid-terms. The wind grew stronger and I got even colder. I heard footsteps behind me. I was afraid to turn but I did anyway. It was Arin. He was glowering. I gaped at him. I closed my mouth. Snap.
I released my fear of him and walked away from him. I wasnt in a mood to talk to anyone. Especially him. He followed. The others were too busy to notice. I was going to freak out. I just knew it. His face was hard to read.
"Why are you here?" His voice was cruel, empty, emotionless. I had the feeling he hated me. I compared him to the Black Knight Ranger. He was kind and he cared about others. Not Arin. He didnt give a wazz about anyone but his sister.
"Nothing," I answered. "My friends asked me to come with them and I did." He shifted slightly. I gulped. His stare was too much. His eyes were black pools of black water. I could see what he was thinking. His mind was too complex. Arin sighed and started to walk away. Hmm. I had the feeling this would happen again.
After Combat Practice, the guys wanted to go uptown to rent horror movies. Tammy wanted to watch a chickflick while Mairanni wanted to finish reading her textbook about Wild Force Rangers. I had nothing to do. We stood in the courtyard just outside of the cafeteria. They argued for about ten minutes. I sat on the concrete wall with Mairanni. We talked about stuff.
"So," She started. "How do you like the Acedemy? I know you're not exactly new but still. It takes a while to adjust to this new experience." Her voice was calm and soothing. I sighed.
"It's OK, I think. I just wonder if I'll ever be a Ranger. Maybe not. I faint at the sight of blood." I smiled weakly. She laughed quietly. We noticed our little debate team was finished with their dicussion. They had all agreed to go uptown. They wanted to visit Arin. Go over some stuff. My eyes got wider. I so did not want to go. Arin isnt the kind of person you can just talk to.
I shivered. Mairanni felt my mood and shook her head. "Um...guys? I really dont think Vee here wants to go see Arin at the moment." Tammy spoke first.
"Why not? OMGOSH. Did that cold, heartless devil scare you?" She sounded worried. Martin interrrpted her. "The hell he did. I hate that bastard. He needs someone to put him in his place." He was pissed. I put my arms up. His body heat felt good since I was so cold.
"Woah, there, cowboy. I dont want you to get hurt. It's pretty ovious he could knock you down with one punch. One." I felt him calm down. He nodded. Hunter spoke at last.
"I have an idea. Why dont we order some pizza and rent some movies? The girls can go watch whatever they want in Vee's dorm while us guys go to my dorm and watch a nice, bloody movie. How does that sound?"
Tammy cleared her throat. "Can I tweek that? Why dont I call Arianna and she can come over. I have been itching to do makeovers!" She gushed. The guys agreed and went through the dark into the Sector A dorm building. I lifted up my eyebrow.
"Makeovers?" I asked as if they were going to do an autopsy on an alien. Tammy nodded. Mairanni went along with her game. I had a HUGE lump in my throat. Oh, why do the bad thing happen to me? Is God punishing me or what?

So I didnt get a makeover after all. Ari couldnt come she had stuff to do. She said that over the weekend we could all go to her house. She reassured me that Arin wouldnt be there. Somehow I found relief in that. We all went to my dorm and turned on the music channel. Nothing good was on, so I plugged my iPod into the small stereo Aunt Liz had given me about two years ago.
I put on shuffle and The Red Hot Chili Peppers was on. The song was Higher Ground. I hoped that Tammy and Mairanni wouldnt think I was some kind of 80's freak but they actually liked the song. Tammy was dancing and Mairanni tapped her foot to the rhythm. Then Tammy asked me a question I was not prepared for.
"Hey, Vee."
"Yes?"
"Does Arin scare you? Or does he make you uncomfortable?"
I sighed. I was thinking of my answer before I said something. "Um no. I just dont like the way he looks at me. I think he hates me." Tammy surprised me by bursting into a laugh.
Tears spilled over her cheeks and she cleared her throat. "Sorry, it's just that Arin is always like that. I mean, I thought he hated us too, but he's ok. Once you know him well, he wont be so mean to you." Somehow, I didnt believe her. Arin was cruel, hostile and didnt have any emotions at all. I just hoped that this weekend I could confront him. If Tammy could fight monsters, then I could fight Arin.
