Dancing Stars

Pure was the light that showered down from the night sky as I stare at the moon and stars while they danced. What an odd night; a full moon and a meteor shower together, must be some sort of sign.

Sitting up she glances at the forest, a place that calls out to her in her dreams. Never daring too enter that place, she had heard too many stories about the things that prowled there. The stories came from her older brother who told them often when she was younger. He once told her about the things that resided there and how merciless they were, but as scary as they where they weren't what kept her awake at night. Not the scary monsters or the eternal darkness that consumed that place, it was his eyes. They were cold and empty whenever he spoke of that place, almost as if the forest took away the life in his eyes.

It had been 10 years since her brother had left her behind and entered that forest, now she feels a force somewhere deep inside her that was drawing her to it. In her dreams she could hear the whispers of dark things and could do nothing but watch as they mouthed to her their silent screams. She felt uneasy about following the voices that she couldn't understand, but, as was previously said, it was a dark place where even the moon dared not go.

She stayed up all night watching and waiting for the stars to stop falling, but even though it was nearing dawn they continued to fall from the sky. She retreated to her lonesome cabin as the sun peaked its head over the horizon and gave one more glance at the sun rising. It would have been beautiful, but with the falling stars it looked like rain trying to put out a fire. With a sigh she entered the cabin and began to smile as her cat ran up to greet her.

"Hello P.K., how was your night? Hopefully guarding the cabin wasn't too difficult." She said to her cat. P.K.. He was only a few centuries old and for any young Driten, being chosen to protect it's masters home was an honor. "All quiet Miss Naluna," He responded respectfully, "Nothing but frogs and crickets all night. May I ask what drove you to stay out till the sun returned?" He jumped onto the table in the kitchen where she stood staring out the window. "The sky has been crying for some time now," She turned to him with a grim expression on her face, "You know what I must do Pell. The forest cries my name in my dreams until I wake and even when my eyes are open I can see their screaming and twisted faces." She look down at Pell who's eyes were glazed with fear. "Miss Naluna are you sure you are ready for this? I think you should wait a few days to be sure." She turned and headed for the hall and entered the room on the left with Pell close behind, taking a deep breath and took the faded smells of what was once her older brothers room.  "It's been ten long years since Bulan left for the forest," Tears began to form in her eyes, "He never said a word, he just disappeared on this day all those years ago..." The tears began to fall down her cheeks curving with her jaw than slipping off to the floor. "Why did he go Pell? I know you've known all this time." She knelt down and met him face to teary face. Pell tried to look away but her eyes were pleading, begging, for answers and he knew it was time to confess.

"On this day ten years ago Master Bulan informed me of the prophecy of which you were born to. He felt it was not fair to make you responsible, his baby sister, to tame the evils of which have consumed that world deep in the forest. After much preparing he left for the NightWood to fulfill that prophecy." As Pell finished his story, a look of sorrow crept into his eyes. Bulan was Pell's Master, only when he left Pell with Naluna did he know that he was never coming back. "Pell... If Bulan fulfilled the prophecy, why are the signs still coming? And what of these dreams?" She was reaching for a pillow that was neatly placed on her brothers bed when realization finally hit. She fell to her knees, grabbing the pillow and squeezed it tight while burying her face into it.

Pell tugged on the sleeve of her dress, "Miss Naluna," He whispered, "We have both known for sometime now that Master Bulan was not returning..." Pell sighed and waited for her to regain her self. "P.K. is it possible that he could still be alive? Perhaps when I go to follow this destiny I can find him and return him home?" As soon as the words came out, Pell's eyes met hers and they both slumped their heads and sighed. "I will not give you hope Miss Naluna, but I can go with you and teach you the things I taught Master Bulan." She quickly raised her eyes, "What things?" Pell looked up and saw that curiosity had filled her face and he began to fell somewhat excited.

"The power that you hold within, child of the moon."
