I watched Dustin as he began preparing our ship for sail. Im pretty nervous about cage diving now that it's going to happen in a couple of hours...its only about six in the morning. Way too early for me to be awake but I know this day is huge, our first expedition is almost half way over already so we've really got to try to tag at least twenty sharks within two hours.
Thankfully they don't all have to be Great Whites. I'd like to see a couple when I go cage diving with Jamie soon, though. I will not chicken out the last minute. I forced myself to look away from Dustin before someone noticed me. I walked over to my parents thinking we should have a quick talk.
"Mom, Dad can I talk to you for a few minutes?"
Chang's POV
I tried to focus on my work for our expedition but I couldn't stop thinking about Gabby. I'm in love with her but I know she doesn't feel the same way about me and I don't want to force her to do anything she doesn't want to.
It that Dustin likes her. Gabby doesn't think he does but I can tell. The way he looks at her and how he smiles at her...It'll be hard for them though because of Gabby's parents. I looked around for her when I saw her parents and then saw that she was with them talking to them about something. It seemed pretty serious.
Gabby's POV
"Not now honey, were really busy can't you see that?". I sighed knowing I should have waited till we were done. Stupid, stupid, stupid!
"Yeah I'm sorry I don't know what I was thinking.". My dad whispered something to my mom and she sighed.
"It's about Dustin isn't it?". I nodded, and tried not to peak at him to see if he was trying to listen to our conversation.
"Lets just try and tag at least seven sharks first and then well talk okay? Go watch out for them.".
"Hey dad how's that nurse shark doing? The one you tagged when we were still in South America?" I meant to ask him for awhile now but I kept forgetting.
"Bella is almost in Hawaii now." I tried not to laugh at the name my dad decided to pick for a shark.
"Do we know if she's pregnant?". My dad shook his head.
"No, she's not pregnant but it does seem like she's looking for some mates though, poor girl.". My dad went back over to where his computer was and I grabbed my binoculars from my bag to start looking. There should be a lot more then there is since it's dawn...I looked out into the water for what seemed like forever when we finally got something.
"Bull Shark!!". Chang yelled, and our routine began once again. I admired Brian as he got on his scuba diving suit and jumped in after we got the cage in the ocean. Right after him was Jamie with the acoustic tag ready. After they jumped in I ran to the left side of the boat where they are and watched, not wanting to look away.
I noticed there wasn't just one Bull Shark though, there was about twenty. Bull sharks got their name from their short snout. They also got their name from head butting into their prey. Kind of funny right? That would
be a painful bruise though. They are very aggressive sarks and the most dangerous sharks in the world.
I'm happy Im not cage diving in the morning now...Heres another fun fact for you. Did you know that sharks doesn't have a single bone in their body? Not one! Just all cartilage. I thought that was pretty incredible. I started to get nervous when it took Brian and Jamie a little longer then usual. I walked over to Dustin hoping we could figure out how to get alone so we could pick up on our conversation from where we left off the other night.
"Hey. I know we're not alone but I wanted to talk you anyway...". I gave him a small smile.
Dustin's POV
Gabby is the prettiest girl I've ever met. I'm always tempted to kiss her but I know I have to have her parents permission first which is going to be tricky...as we talked about how we could figure out to get alone Brian and Jamie finally jumped out of the water. I sighed getting annoyed that every time we seemed to make progress someone Interrupted us
"Holy crap! There was one bull shark that almost ripped our cage open! They were really aggressive today."
Gabby's POV
I shuddered, at the thought of almost being attacked by a shark. I looked between the two of them as I tried to take as many notes as possible.
"Even though I almost got eaten alive I was able to tag him. He seems even more aggressive then the average female bull shark. It doesn't look like he's been doing any mating at all and he's pissed off about it."
"I know how he feels...". Dustin mumbled under his breath. I looked at him, as my face turned bright red and he looked up and grimaced.
"You heard that didn't you?". Yes as a matter of fact I did, but I wasn't sure if I could tell him right there...
