It was fair to say that there was a buzz at the reception. It seems that nothing can lift the bad mood after a man returning from the dead, than a free bar. In her slightly drunken state, Kate found herself wondering if that was the real reason why Jesus learnt how to turn water into wine. So everything was slightly easier to accept after his miraculous return.
No one noticed Alex slipping out with the crowds. Everyone else was busy talking about what had just happened."Neal Caffery. As I live and breathe. You should be able to."
"Diana! You look amazing. But it's not Caffery anymore," Caffery explained. He smiled like a love struck fool, full of pride, "its Ellis."
"You took Sara's name?"
"A rose by any other name smells just as sweet. I've had so many allies that one more change was nothing. Besides, Sara wanted to keep her name."
Elizabeth cooed, incredibly happy in her drunken state. Peter grinned at Neal.
"Nineteen years ago, I found the clues you left. I knew you weren't dead," he said.
Elizabeth slapped his chest in annoyance, "you knew?!"
"It took you a year to find my clues?" Neal scoffed.
"You're slipping boss," Diana said.
"In my defence, my mind was clouded by mourning, and I did tell you but you didn't believe me. You said I was spending too much time with Theodore," Peter argued.
"Mom, come here please!" Theo called.
Diana looked over, swaying in her tipsy state. He waved her closer.
"If you'll excuse me, my Theodore-corrupted son needs me," Diana said.
She strolled off towards Theo.
Neal frowned, "Who's Theodore? Did you replace me?!"
"Shut up Neal you know no one can replace you. Mozzie didn't want to be mozzie without you, so he goes by Theodore," peter scoffed.
"Theodore winters. That's nice," Neal smiled.
"His parents never came back. When he lost you, he lost part of the only family he had left. I don't think he'll ever forgive you," Elizabeth explained, sharply.
Neal hung his head in shame. "I don't blame him."
"I don't either. What you did was horrible. And unnecessary!" Elizabeth spat.
"I know. Now. At the time it seemed the most necessary thing in the world. To keep all of you safe from the Pink Panthers, and to get the freedom I deserved," Neal insisted.
"For twenty years though? Twenty years and not even a text?" Peter asked.
"I sent you a bottle of Bordeaux around the time Neal was supposed to be born," Neal shrugged, helplessly.
"When?!" Elizabeth demanded.
"Remember that night Mozzie met Neal for the first time and a bottle of Bordeaux just appeared on the doorstep?" peter reminded her.
Elizabeth looked sheepish. "Oh."
"Mom! Come on! Mother and son dance!" Neal called.
"Ooh coming!" Elizabeth squealed excitedly.
Peter and Neal leaned side by side, watching Diana dance with Theo and Neal dance with Elizabeth.
"You raised a good kid. If any of mine end up like him, I'll be proud," Neal said.
