          It was a typical day.

The trees were swaying in the breeze, the spring air filled the air. All the children were being led down to the hatchery. Jennifer, was one of them, a tall rather pale girl. She has black hair, gold eyes, and has always been fond of dragons and other mythical beings.

They all were soon were led into it and were free to roam around. Jennifer went to some of the not so rare dragon eggs, she didn't think that a rare one would ever choose her.
"Hey, Jennifer!" It was her best friend, Emily, She already had her dragon, it was a wind dragon. Emily had white eyes, red hair, and freckles. She was one of the nicest girls Jennifer had met.
"Hi Emily!" she said, "what are you doing here?"
"Didn't you hear? They found a thunder dragon egg!" Jennifer felt upset.
"Emily, you know I'll never get a rare dragon." Emily shrugged.
"It's worth a shot right?" Jennifer guessed it was, so she walked over to where the thunder dragon egg was.
It was a golden egg, shiniest of all the eggs in the hatchery, it was impossible to miss. Jennifer gingerly set her hand on the egg carefully. All of a sudden, there was a glow coming from the back of her hand. She quickly took her hand off, a golden mark on the back of her hand now. The egg was cracking, it was hatching!
Hello? Can you hear me?
Jennifer looked around, slightly confused. "Who's there?"
So you do hear me? Good, now I know which human is my rider.
Jennifer's eyes widened. "Are you the dragon?"
Yes I am, please back up a bit.
Jennifer did as told. The top of the egg was starting to come off. A dragon hatchling was crawling out of the egg shell. It had golden scales, silver spikes from the top of its head all the way down to the tip of its tail, sapphire blue eyes, and silver talons. Jennifer was very happy, thought that today was the best day of her life.
Well what should I name you? Jennifer thought.
It is up to you, the dragon replied. Jennifer thought and thought, she soon came up with a name, Tornic, which means 'thunder' in a dragon's "human" language. The dragon nodded in agreement.

Years passed, Tornic was not fully grown but was rather big now. Jennifer loved going on flights with him and hunting. One day, she woke up to the horror that started her adventure.
Jennifer! Wake up!
"Huh? Tornic, what's wrong?" Jennifer said as she sat up in her bed.
The village is being attacked, we must get out of here now!
"But what about everyone else?"
There's no time! Tornic lifted Jennifer out of her bed through the window with his tail and set her on the saddle on his back. Jennifer barely had time to hang on before Tornic took off flying. She looked down at the village as Tornic flew, seeing a strange dark beast flying below them over it. Tornic flew over all the trees and into the clouds for shelter and cover, he treated Jennifer as if she was younger then him. Jennifer knew everything was destroyed now, was Emily ok? Were her parents ok? What about the eggs in the hatchery? What would happen to the village? What is that beast that did this? All these questions filled Jennifer's mind, but she was too tired to think of answers. Jennifer soon slowly drifted off to sleep on Tornic's back.
Goodnight, Jennifer.
Jennifer smiled a bit, her eyes closed. "Goodnight."

Tornic thought for a while as he continued flying, trying to figure out a safe place. He soon thought about the deep forest, barely anyone or anything has ever gone there, there should be plenty of food, a water source somewhere, and maybe a cave for shelter. Tornic sighed. He worried for Jennifer, but he let his worries slide by and flew down towards the deep forest below.
Oh Jennifer, if only you knew how to use your magic to protect yourself.
He made a quiet vow to himself that he will protect Jennifer at all costs, even his own life. He will teach her the spells of the magic that dragon riders can use, and he will treat her as if she was his own hatchling.
