Jennifer hugged Emily tightly, smiling. "You're alive!"
Emily smiled back, "I'm fine, but Aircutter, my dragon is" she went silent, tears filling her eyes. Jennifer's eyes widened and she hugged Emily tighter, trying to comfort her. "It's ok Emily."
"Dragon hunters, they just came and" she started sobbing.
"Emily, please don't cry."
"A knight killed him, Aircutter I, I miss him so much. Why don't people who don't live in the forest understand dragons are not horrible monsters?"
"I don't know, but come on, you must be starving." They both ate some deer after Tornic had caught one. Emily sighed after finishing. Jennifer looked at her, "Emily, you can stay here with us." Emily smiled.
"I'm not staying, you should be better on your own." Emily sighed.
"Wait, huh?"
"You need to do your quest on your own...I have to go, I'll explain another time..." Emily stood up and walked away. Jennifer was hurt and upset.
Did she really just leave? After years of being best friends? Tornic nudged her.
Don't worry young one. It will be alright. Jennifer sighed. Her thoughts were never safe unless Tornic was asleep.
Maybe we should just leave the forest.
How come, Jen?
To find the beast. Tornic's eyes seem to widen.
But, remember what it did?!
Yes I do, but the prophecy is talking about me. I know it.
You're most likely right, but I worry for you, Jen.
I know you do, you've treated me like your own for years now.
Jennifer, we can go, but I might worry even more.
I know. Jennifer just smiled and started packing up. She picked up her mothers bow and just stared at the engraving in the wood, a pegasus. Her mom wasn't a dragon rider, but a pegasus rider, which in all honesty, Jennifer though was amazing. Dragons choose you and they hatch, pegasi will kick the person if they don't choose them. She sighed, she missed her mom and her dad. She grabbed her sword and put it in her sheath then walked outside to Tornic.
You ready to go? He said. Jennifer just smiled.
"You bet I am." She climbed onto Tornic's back and settled into the saddle. Not long after, Tornic took to the skies, he flew just below the clouds so the sun wouldnt shine on his scales as much. Jennifer smiled, she had always loved flying. The view was just always perfect, everything was far below yet it was a great view. The trees were green, the field of grass were green, the sky was blue. Jennifer could feel the wind going past her head, her hair was blowing in the wind. She smirked,
"Tornic, can we?" Tornic chuckled.
Just this once today, alright?
"Sounds good to me." Tornic closed his wings and went into a free fall dive, he glanced at some water below and aimed for it. Jennifer screamed in delight, she always thought this was fun. Tornic soon crashed into the water and flew out, spinning, water flew off his scales. Jennifer laughed, wringing out her hair.
"That was amazing!" Tornic chuckled and continued flying. When nightfall came, he landed in some trees to stay hidden and let Jennifer climb off. Jennifer laid down against a tree and opened the book of her dad's and read through the prophecy again. She sighed, still not believing this was right and turned the page, reading some more prophecies. Why did her dad have a book full of prophecies? She shook her head and closed the book and pulled out another book. It was a fantasy book from the kingdom outside of the forest. It had stuff of dragons, phoenixes, pegasi, mermaids, dire wolves, werewolves, vampires, and other things. They didn't know these were all real, not long ago they found out dragons were real however. She chuckled as she read through it, it said many false things about these creatures. Werewolves do loose control on full moons but they could shift whenever they wanted otherwise. Not all vampires drink human blood, in fact most of them drink deer or rabbit blood, it depends where they live. It said mermaids were wonderful pretty girls of the water. Not all of them are, a lot are terrifying and ugly that disguise themselves as pretty so they can lure their prey into the water, then they can grab them and yank them under the water. Jennifer closed the book and put it in her bag then looked at Tornic and chuckled, closing her eyes.
"If only they all really knew." She slowly drifted off to sleep.
