The small bundle of blankets wiggled in the woman's arms as she kept to the shadows, the night moonless aiding in her mission. She wouldn't be seen as she slunk around nightly guards patrolling for any evil doers. The woman praying to anyone that she wouldn't be caught, it would mean the death of both of them. The woman continued on her way, having close calls with the patrolling unit twice already. Luckily she had a few more blocks to go for the safety of her cargo. A small squeeze in her hand brought her out of her thoughts and she smiled softly down at the little boy who so diligently kept up with her as she had told him before this. The boy was afraid since he didn't know what was going on but trust shone in his eyes as his mother looked down to him. "You'll both be OK, I promise alright. You know I have and will always love you so much." She whispered to him as she brushed his black locks out of his eyes tenderly. The boy nodded keeping his promise of not making a sound until they got to where they needed to be. The woman smiled and adjusted the bundle in her arms tears threatening to fall again. She composed herself , kept going with the raven haired boy following closely behind.
Some agonizing minutes later the woman stopped in front of a simple looking house, thankful as one of the lights was still on. She leaned down at the boy's height placing a kiss on his forehead. "These people are nice. They'll take care of you and your brother from now on...they'll love you in my place. I promise you two will be fine here. You'll help with your brother right? I'll find you two again one day, or you'll find me. Be strong little one, because you both are. Don't forget when you're feeling lonely, you don't have to be because you'll always have him." She says looking down at the bundle and pulling back one of the blankets revealing a baby boy only a few days old. The woman choked back tears as she kept talking. "I love you both so much. I have to go though, to keep you both safe. You'll understand when you're older and I hope you won't grow to hate me for this. If you do I'll understand, a mother shouldn't leave their children behind. It pains me but it's for your own good. If you forget about me I'll understand that too. Just don't ever, ever forget how much I love Jiro and you." She ran a hand over her eyes, wiping away the few tears that managed to escape and smiled at the small boy again.
The little boy still too young to comprehend anything only looked at his mother confused as to why she was crying. "I love you too mommy." He said as the woman placed a note in his shirt pocket and led him up the stairs. She gently handed him the baby in he arms and he quickly held him close. "You two will grow up strong. You'll be a great brother...Stay here and don't follow me. Can you promise me that you'll stay here Chonan. Please?"
"I promise, when are you coming back?" He asked curiously as his mother knocked on the door. "Soon my child." With that she was gone into the night, just as the door opened allowing a sliver of light to escape into the night.
"My heavens Alrik come here."
