I woke up to see people staring at my face. Startled, I screamed and jumped off the bed. The other girls staring at me gasped at my reaction and stepped back. 'Who are these people?', I wondered. I remembered quietly slipping into a free bed last night and instantly falling asleep. So, I guessed these were my dorm mates. Now that my vision was clear, I could see that there were three girls. One brunette one blonde and one black-haired, all of them were in night dresses.

"See, I told you she must be some peasant girl!", said the blonde with pink eyes and a fair amount of make-up on.

"Oh, quite down Lazuli. Don't be rude.", said the black-haired girl with amber eyes.

"H...Hi! I'm Lucy. I'm you're new dorm mate.", I said trying to make friends.

"Hi,"replied the brunette with a gleam in her turquoise eyes,"I'm Michelle and we are about to get late for breakfast so perhaps we should all change. Sit with us at breakfast and we'll get you set in. Let me introduce us."

Thus, she introduced everyone and they went about chit-chatting all the while getting dressed. From what I could observe, Lazuli had a mean exterior but a warm interior. Michelle was like a mother to all, helping them and caring for them. Nickie, the dark haired one with amber eyes was the playful and cheerful one of the lot. They seemed to have a really strong bond of friendship. I spotted my books, timetable and uniform at the door and quickly got changed. The uniform was consisting of a white shirt with black buttons to go with the black knee-length skirt. The cloak was of different colour for each individual depending on eye colour. Therefore, my cloak was a brilliant green. I checked my timetable and it said that there were only five classes a day followed by Companion Time. Nickie said that since it was the first day for everyone, we would get our Companions today. Seeing my confusion, the girls decided that I must not have been from nearby and explained the matter to me.

Companions ranged from a rat to a dragon. These Companions selected you sensing your potential and magic capability. The common rat is ranked the lowest whereas the dragon is ranked second to highest. The highest had only ever been gotten once by Merlin who sadly passed away a couple years back. These Companions would strengthen your magic and stay by your side forever.

This got me excited instantly. I simply couldn't wait for the Choosing Ceremony. We headed to breakfast through another series of stairs and corridors that I was beginning to recognize. We soon reached a huge hall where many long tables were set up and people sat eating, chatting and laughing. I had no clue where to sit but thankfully, Nickie pulled me along to a free table where the four of us sat down and ate when suddenly, a gong sounded. Apparently, it signalled the end and beginning of class. We checked our timetables and I was more than glad to see that Michelle and I had exactly the same timetables. At least I didn't have to wander these halls alone.

First class being Self-Defence, we headed out of the halls following the cool maps that appeared when you touched a class on your timetable. Once at our destination, we entered the classroom and sat on the bamboo floor. The room had a blackboard at one end and stacks of mats at the other. The room had a high ceiling and the walls had a lot of distance between them. Soon, all the twenty students were inside waiting, when a burly man with no hair on his head entered the room.

He wore a plain yellow t-shirt and denim pants. His piercing blue eyes seemed to see right through your soul. He walked to the front and introduced himself.

"I am Mr. Reiner, your Self-Defence teacher. Today, we'll be starting with the basics. There will be no introductions as we have a lot of portion to cover. To cast any form of magic, you need focus and determination. The stronger your mind, the more you will be able to bend the energy threads around you to your will. These threads are ever present and are what allow us to use magic. Genes can also affect your control." Upon hearing this, my spirit began to plummet since I was a human and as far as I knew, my family was no magic. But Mr. Reiner only said that control can depend on genes not that it does. So, I decided that I would try my best and create big magic.
