Sara kept grumbling to herself how Chase wasn't here when he was supposed to be the one touring her in his school. Plus, she didn't have any friends from around here. She only had one, and that guy, didn't seem to love to be seen. Their acquaintance was merely coincidental. I think.
She was outside "The Constraint" as Kai would've said. It wasn't even that bad. People are seriously overreacting to this. She mentally scoffed. Sara already registered her key card, she was still hungry so the first thing that came to mind was food. She still had some time left before first period starts and she's hell bent to see how awesome their school's cafeteria is.
She walked with eccentric pace as the thought of a thousand kind of delicacies were just a few meters away. A gigantic fountain was placed in front of the wide entrance of the school's cafeteria. Sara noticed how busy people were by the cacophonous melody of pans and sizzles someplace distant. She went inside but her happy aura was placed downcast as to what she saw, "Every freaking stall empty."
Her saddened state didn't bring her all the way down, she still had hope. She still had Starbucks.
Well, at least that's what she thought she had. She knew deep down that given this massive building of a school, there's always a freaking Starbucks. But what lead her to that brought her down even more, she saw that it was a bit crowded. Students were piling and the staff were running from one coffee maker to the next.
Turning her back, she walked sulkingly to wherever her feet brought her. Suddenly, she remembered what Chase told her before.
"There's this really great cafe that we go to. It's a bit of a secret. More of a hidden gem from the school but it isn't that far away. More classier than Starbucks, I'll say. It's also not too crowded. Their drinks are awesome. It helped us a lot during tests. Damn, cramming is a bitch."
Sara laughed softly. Her phone vibrated, she took it out and she saw a notification. First Day Assembly, 8 o'clock.
"Damn, I really need some food and coffee right now. It's not going to hurt to skip just this once, right?"
Checking her watch, she shrugged and went to the parking lot. Noticing there were couples by their cars, making out. She scrunched her face by their obliviousness. She opened the car door and started the engine. She drove out from school, away from strangers and away from what she got herself into.
_
Sara was happy and more willing to skip first assembly and the whole meet n' greet shabam. The more she drove further, the more she delved in her thoughts. Everything seemed so surreal from where she was right now. She revved the engine with more speed. Still wondering what Chase meant by the cafe, she had no shit clue where it can be found. She wasn't even sure why she drove out in the first place. Letting it sink in. I need more time with my own thoughts.
She finally found a place, an abandoned pier surrounded with gigantic shipping crates, fenced with a worn out coat of white with a sign that hovered, "KEEP OUT" and a mangy lock, barely doing justice in its purpose. Sara got out of her car, and took a good look at it while still contemplating whether it was worth breaking into. Her old self emerged in an instant.
No one would know, Zahr.
And with that, she kicked the lock with ferocity. The clang of metal to another metal, reverberating to an empty lot, with the looming sky as a witness as she revert back to her old self, in some sort of way. Opening the gate, she made sure the lock was still clinging on to the gate's latch. She got inside the car and parked it near the tall greenery resting near the gate. She spotted a small guard house, to which was also empty. She wasn't surprised at all.
Now she had her time to think clearly what she's doing. "You fucked it up," she sighed, "Fuck."
Sara was used to the pep talk she was giving herself. She didn't care if she sounded stupid, no one was around, thank god.
She was somehow still perplexed of how it had occurred to her. She was fortunate, she knew that as much. But she was curious. Very curious.
"Oscar Claven. A filthy rich guy with a multi million empire that started from the bottom; easily gets bored; all around cool guy," Sara was deducing everything she had gathered so far of the Claven family. Starting with the guy who happened to pick her up and gave her a home. Odd, like he was there for some sort of reason with an impeccable timing during her distress.
"I could've backed out and went to Aunt Lils but he swooped in and saved me." What strike her was that he was too willing to let her sleep over, most especially, to a complete stranger.
"Chase Claven. Chauvinistic womanizer; spoiled but raised well; an all out Popular." There wasn't much to say about Chase. He was easy to talk to. Sara figured, he was very approachable and sociable at school, but he was pretty much incognizant with what Sara noticed.
"Last but not the least," certainly the most important, Sara mentally added. "Anne Claven. House wife; business mogul; shady lady." For Sara, Anne was a good role model. She was nice and very motherly to Sara but something felt wrong. Even if she was a good friend with her Aunt, something was still up. She couldn't pin point what it was. "It looks like I have to revel to it while it lasts then."
Sara took her phone from her pocket and saw live stream video of the school's highlight during assembly. Students were already flooding it with comments, likes and dislikes. Sighing, she exited the video. Opening her email account, she found dozens of mails from Jack.
It's been a whole summer without you. I'm in Italy. I'm saving you fresh baked pizzas and fine wine. I miss you. Call me.
Dad's been bugging me to attend a boarding school and business seminars. It sucks. I need you.
There were a lot but Sara thought it'd be much safer if she kept the messages in her inbox. Even though she badly wanted to talk to Jack, it'd be safer to not to involve any casualties. She wanted every single one to be safe. Even if it means sacrificing her romantic relationship with the person leaving her messages in her email.
