Count On Me » Bruno Mars
❝ You can count on me 'cause I can count on you ❞
Anger entwined with grief, that was what she felt at the very moment. Both emotions directed towards her now ex-lover. She also felt a slightest bit of relief knowing that she don't have to be the girl he wants her to be, but rather be herself again.
Her feelings crashes down on her like a tidal wave, that she has yet to learn to control and surf safely. Oh the wonders teenage hormones could do.
She picks up her phone with a weary sigh, and scrolls through her contacts before clicking on the name of that one person she knows will make her feel better. Her best friend, Jayde.
Jayde was that type of girl who would crack up at silliest of jokes, who finds happiness in the smallest of things that everyone forgets to appreciate and feel, but most of all, she was that type of friend who never fails to distract you from your daily worries.
She held her phone to her ear, listening to the rings until it ceased and the cheery voice greeted, "Hey Bea!"
Beatrix's lips slowly moved into a small smile at her friend's endless positive energy. "Hey Jay, you were right after all."
"Okay," Jayde replied, dragging the last syllable out, clearly confused and prompting Bea to continue. "About what?"
"About Cai. He's a jerk," She pursed her lips and shook her head, combing her free hand through her inky shoulder-grazing locks. She sucked in a deep breath and slowly released it. "We broke up."
"Okay, I'll try not to say I told you so," Jayde replied, her voice imbued with a hint of amusement laced with notable concern.
"I hate you," She groaned, sounding miserable and pathetic even to herself. Beatrix could hear the smile in Jayde's voice, as she chimed in.
"I know, Bea."
There was a brief pause that Beatrix wondered if the line got disconnected, when Jayde asked, her tone lacking the amusement and undoubtedly revealing her concern now. "Are you okay?"
"Honestly? No," She replied in a small, brittle voice. She absentmindedly clenched and unclenched her jaws, a habit she had developed when she was stressed or upset in her childhood and could not shake even now.
"Well then, let's change that," Beatrix could hear a sound of panting from the other line, the rough inhale and exhale of a being who had just ran a couple miles.
"Jay, why are you breathing heavily?" She asked, inquisitiveness coloring her tone as she waited for her reply that never came. Clink clink clink. The sudden tapping on her window startled her. Turning her head towards the window, staring with eyebrows furrowed in confusion and fright, her lips twisted into a frown as she listened to the relentless tapping. She slowly rolled out of the bed, leaving her phone behind and took cautious steps towards the window. Reluctantly, she peeled the linen curtain back a bit.
As her eyes adjusted to the shimmering silver glow of the moon, she could see an outline of a small figure standing right in her line of view. She squinted her eyes to see her red-headed friend waving at her, enthusiastically. She opened the window and whisper yelled, "How did you get here?"
