I took a deep breath and held Lily's hand, I said the breath taking words.
"Lily, I have known you for nearly 4 years." I paused, "And I love you. You are truly a blessing from God. I have been dying to ask you this for so long." I noticed that Lily was biting her lip, trying to keep the tears from pouring out of her beautiful hazel eyes. Every person in the room gasped as I held out the little black box. "I want to be with you for the rest of my life, Will you marry me?" I said.
By now I was getting emotional as well and Lily broke down in tears. She embraced me in a hug and between sniffles she whispered, " Yes! Yes I will! I love you so much!"
It was the happiest thing that has ever happened to me. I was so excited to marry the wonderful woman who was in front of me. I had been dying to let her know the truth. So many things and memories raced through my mind at the time. One specifically, the other afternoon that I spoke to Lily's parents asking for permission to take their daughter's hand in marriage. I was so glad they approved of me.
