|| Day 5.5 First Year Battles ||
The Last Thing I Saw
Ding ding
I held the dagger over Primo's throat as the bell echoed around the arena.
I looked up, seeing Robin behind Amie- another dagger also positioned across the front of her neck.
Getting up, I helped Primo off the ground and wiped the sweat from my brow. That match had not taken very long with Robin advancing aggressively as soon as it had started, leaving me to deal with Primo.
"AND THE WINNERS OF THIS MATCH ARE ROBIN AND NIGHTINGAALE!!!"
Caius' familiar voice boomed throughout the arena, causing another round of cheers to surface.
"They'll be against Remi and Meraella soon, so hold tight folks."
Amie and Primo walked out of the battlegrounds first, Robin and I following soon after. I felt relieved as we left the buzz of the audience behind.
"Good job guys!!" Meraella beamed at all of us, looking as fresh as a daisy.
I, on the other hand, was sticky with the sweat and heat from the aftermath of our fight.
"You're next." Robin bared his teeth in a 'friendly' grin at Meraella and she looked away quickly. I felt anger boil up in me and I took a step closer towards her.
"Thanks." I gave Meraella my warmest smile and she brightened up considerably.
Primo mumbled his thanks as well and sighed tiredly. When we had faced each other during the battle I had originally thought that Primo would not put up much of a fight.
I was wrong.
He had parried every one of my blows and he was almost as fast as Alistair at dealing them out. It wasn't until he got distracted when Amie had let out a cry of fear that I had been able to catch him off guard.
Primo and Amie had lost both of their matches, meaning that they were not going to advance to the next round of battles against the other years.
Robin walked off, most likely to rest up a bit before our match with Remi and Meraella.
In the corner of my eye I caught sight of Amie. She was rubbing her arms tiredly and leaning against Remi. He had his chin resting on the top of her head, his arms around her waist and a content smile on his face.
I felt my insides warm up in happiness just watching them.
I started to follow after Robin but catching sight of the look on Meraella's face, I stopped short.
Her brown eyes were shadowed as she gazed at Remi and Amie. Her figure was tense and fists clenched tightly. My eyes widened in surprise- Meraella didn't seem to be taking Remi and Amie's relationship very well.
Her eyes flashed quickly to me and her expression turned sweet in a second.
Smiling at me, Meraella waved goodbye and walked off the other way.
I frowned. Something about the sudden change of her expression unsettled me.
"Good work out there Nightingale." Alistair appeared in my line of sight and held his hand out for a high five. Slightly surprised, I returned it. He wasn't usually this... friendly.
"You're not hurt right? Primo packed in a few blows there." He gave a once-over, making sure that I was unhurt.
I shook my head. The worse that I could get would only be a few bruises. Nothing that I needed to worry about.
