*Dylan's Point of View*
I hate this job. I hate this ship, this crew, and I especially hate the captain. But unfortunately I'm stuck here until I can find another job. I sigh and run my fingers through my hair as I watch my crew mates struggle with the net.

My eyes widen as I see them hurl the net onto the deck of the boat. "We've got ourselves a mermaids, boys!" They all get excited but I find myself instantly protesting, protecting her...Even as I volunteer to take care of her and quickly whisk her away from the captain's cold, lustful stare, I find myself wondering what urged me to do something like this, I'm supposed to keep myself hidden here, I can't be discovered but then...here I am, throwing myself in the open to protect her. Wren. This innocent beauty that swam into our nets...

I can't help but smile a little as I see her fall asleep in my bed, in my jacket... "I won't let them harm you," I find myself mumble as I grab a spare blanket and lay it out on the floor, laying down in front of my bed. Although I find I can barely sleep, almost any noise wakes me up for fear of something coming to threaten the scared, innocent girl that sleeps in my bed.

*Wren's Point of View*
I wake up to the gentle rocking of the waves, snuggling into the warmth that surrounds me as I stretch out my legs and-wait. LEGS??? I sit up instantly, making the cot squeak as I do so and I gasp, looking at my feet sit king out from the other side of the blanket. I quickly scan the room. I scan the area quickly, my head practically spinning as I hear someone bolt up next to me, looking around in the same panic I find myself experiencing. "Holy barnacles! No. This can't be happening. I have to get back. I have to get to Gem." I start breathing quicker and quicker as my hands fidget.

"Wren?"

"I have to find a way to get out of here!" My panic increases as I start searching the room with my eyes, looking for an exit when I spot the door.

"Wren!"

"This is bad. This is really really bad." I fling off the blanket and am about to rush to the door when I get held in place by two strong arms that I instantly struggle against. "Let me go! I have to get out of here, you don't understand, I have to get back to the sea!" By now salty tears are running down my face as I continue struggling. "Please, you have to let me go! You have to! I need to get back, I need to, I need to-"

"WREN!" I instantly pause and for the first time look into the face that goes with the strong arms. Dylan. I instantly break down sobbing as I look into his worried blue eyes. "Wren..."

"I-I'm sorry..." I choke out as he wipes away my tears without hesitation.

"Shh...let's get you all cleaned up, okay?" I can't help but nod at his kind smile. He stands up and offers his hand and I take it, getting to my feet and-

"Barnacles!" I shriek as I collapse to the floor, my legs still weak and useless.

"Wren! Carp, I'm so sorry." Dylan almost instantly picks me up from the floor, setting me on my feet, but still holding me against his chest so I can put weight on them without falling.

"Thank you..." I whisper out as he smiles his warm smile at me, and keeps his hands on my waist as I test out my new found legs, making sure to catch me every time I fall. Eventually I start to get it figured out and take some small steps on my own. I smile a little as I'm able to walk across the whole room and Dylan's face erupts in a smile.

"I knew you could do it," he beams proudly. "Now let me go find you some better clothes, okay? I'll be right back. Stay here okay?"

"Okay." I nod and he leaves quickly, shutting the door behind him as I continue to walk slowly around the room, getting giddy every time I'm successful, and picturing Dylan's approving, warm smile in my mind.
