Beyond a Joke

It has been 20 minutes since Sen had gone to his locker and I was starting to get suspicious of what was happening. I'll wait another 10 minutes and then go and check up on him and see what's up. I started to get bored and opened up my phone to read a book, After about ten minutes I got through 2 chapters and then decided that something was wrong. I put my phone away, left my folders with Seans on the table and left for his locker.

I had to travel through the study area to get to his locker; passing through I decided to scan the room to see if he was talking with someone or on a computer: I couldn't see him anywhere. Walking through the doors to the staircase, I heard thumping noises coming from the floor above; must have been from kids that had skipped class and avoiding the teacher.  Pushing the door that leads to the floor where Sean's locker is, there was someone lying on the floor groaning and stuff littered all over the floor. It took me a few moments to realise who was on the floor as I noticed that the locker that had been ransacked was Sean's. "OH MY GOD SEAN!" I ran down to his side and knelt by his head, blood trickling down his forehead from his messy brown hair.

I lifted his head onto my lap and pressed my hand on where I thought the bleeding was coming from, his eyes flickered open and he looked up at my face in pain. I started getting worked up again and felt my core getting hotter by the second: "Sean are you okay, who did this to you?" He winced as I pushed him up and braced him as he stood.

Leaning over, Sean managed a few words: "I remember having my head smashed against the locker and then turning around to see that it was Chase and Jason. I can't remember much after that apart from black and hearing them rummaging through my locker." By the looks of Sean's head, one of them must have used something to swing around his head. Why did they go through the effort of beating him to get to his locker? He looked towards his ruined locker and gave a crooked smile before saying: "At least they didn't find out about my other locker. The one they just tore apart was my school folders and bag, the other one has what I wanted to get out and show you."

I felt really concerned about him as he was still bleeding a bit down his forehead but he straightened up and retrieved a key from his pocket and handed it to me. Looking at him confused I said, "Which locker is it then?" Sean raised his arm and pointed to a blue locker a few feet from his other one. I walked over to the locker and opened it up to find a dozen or so old books, all leather bound and neatly stacked. I started to read the titles of some of the spines that I could make out and they all had the same general trend. They were all based on the history and theories that surrounded the Ancients.

From behind me I could hear Sean say "You are looking for a red leather book with the title 'Biology and variation of The Ancients' and when you have found it if you could help me get back to the cafe that would be great" I quickly found the book that Sean mentioned as it was the only one that was in perfect condition and right on the top. I picked it out and shut the locker door, turning and removing the key before handing it back to Sean who had propped himself up against the wall holding his head.

I linked my arm around his and lead him down the stairs towards the cafe. A warming feeling grew inside me the longer we walked together. I have never had this feeling before... Not the time to be thinking about that!  We reached the cafe and I settled Sean into the chair he sat in earlier. On another table I spotted a tissue dispenser, I went over and grabbed a handful and brought it back over and sat next to Sean.

He had already opened the book and was flicking through endless pages, scanning their content. I used one of my hands to move his messy brown hair away from his forehead, there was a large gash below his hair line that was still oozing blood. I turned and grabbed a tissue from the table and pressed it gently on the wound, I felt Sean's body flinch and immediately removed the blood covered tissue.

"Sean, I need to stop the bleeding so try to keep the pain in. Please" He stopped what he was doing and turned facing me. I pressed the tissue again to the cut, I looked at his face to see if he was okay and then I met his ice blue eyes.

I could feel my heart pounding against the walls of my chest, for once in a long time I feel... happy. This is not the time for this! I pulled my eyes away and examined the cut under the crimson tissue. Taking the tissue away I said to him "The bleeding has stopped. Is your head okay?" Sean must have zoned out as he just kept his eyes on me and I had no reply. Confused I repeated; "Sean. Your head, is it okay?"

Sean must have snapped out of it, he blinked a couple of times before finally replying to me "Oh yeah, sorry about that. I was just... thinking. I found that page I was looking for to show you" I noticed that his cheeks were glowing red as he turned to the page in the book. I shuffled the chair closer to the table so that I could read the content more easily. Sean pointed to a section of text and read aloud "It is believed that years ago when the Ancients ruled the earth they held the gift of Styrkja, meaning to strengthen. Some of these individuals were able to pass on this trait to others in lower ranking classes such as the Evolved. Not much is known about this ability apart from accounts from the Ancient Wars from soldiers fighting these individuals, most containing the information of eyes changing colour with their Amoeba and an immense increase in strength and power."

We were both in silence for a couple moments, Sean finally spoke "How in the hell did we get this power? It says that only Ancients had this and was able to pass it down but there are no Ancients left! I don't understand how we both have this unless..." I started to get worried when he fell silent.

Seans face started to ignite with colours and that's when I heard him. Troy and his merry gang of morons came strolling into the cafe and spoke "Well, well, well; if it isn't the two nerds we are looking for! Now you two lovebirds are going to tell me how you managed to get the ability of Styrkja"

I felt myself beginning to burn up. This is getting to be beyond a bloody joke now!
