Meeting the Victors

We entered a room with long, red benches and chandeliers that had wine glasses hanging in midair. At the very back of this room sat seven people, each wearing a black suit. In the very back, I saw Stache. His eyes met with mine and I couldn't help but sigh in relief.

Rastizia sat down on a maroon bench nearest to a tall, slender man with blonde hair. I recognized him from the forty-third hunger games. Stache had a copy of his games because they were one of the most brutal - the arena was practically barren. It was a candelit warehouse. All of the weapons were hung from the sealing so most of the tributes had climbed up and gotten a weapon only to find that the fighting began up there. Many tributes were slashed with swords and then fell, dying from hitting the concrete that laid below. Stache said that this young man, named Woof, had only won because he had climbed the roof tops of the factories and was able to get up and back down to the concrete safely. At the end of the game, this boy had ran throughout the storehouse with a older boy from district 1 chasing him. Eventually, Woof was able to cut down some daggers from the ceiling and they hit the boys spine, paralyzing him.

Next to him sat a lady with very dark skin and very light eyes. Her jet black hair was combed into a tall ponytail and she appeared pregnant. She was not familiar.

Then sat Stache, and to his left were two men that both looked to be about forty or fifty. They must have won towards the beginning of the hunger games. Then there was a very odd looking man with grayish hair. He looked pretty young, only in his twenties or thirties, but he also had large spectacles. He was wearing a suit that was far too big. Finally there was a overweight woman with mossy brown hair. She looked nice, with her large belly and pinkish face. I didn't recognize her either.

Rastizia welcomed us to the group, "Hello! These are the tributes for the fifty-first hunger games! Welcome Honour and Avalon." Everyone clapped but the man with the spectacles.

"Okay," said Rastizia, "Let me introduce the victors! Here we have Woof, then we have Caberet, she is expecting twins! Then our brothers, Toro and Espi, both volunteers form the ninth and fourteenth hunger games! Then we have Baldwin, a very sly victor!" She said pointing to the man with the spectacles. "Then we have Aglen, she won the thirty-eighth hunger games! ... And who could forget - Stache, Avalon's brother!"

After all of the introductories, I ran over to Stache. He hugged me tight. Then we began to talk about the games.

"Avalon, you will be very well off. Like I said, find water and stay hidden. Get a weapon but don't use it voluntarily, just for defense. Don't start a fire, it draws attention to yourself. And believe in yourself. The longer you believe you can do it the easier it is to think you can do it." Stache gave me a boat-load of other hints that I made sure I would remember. Finally, Stache said, "Go talk to another victor. I need to talk to Honour."

I walked over to Aglen. "Hello my dear," she said pleasantly, "I'm sorry about everything. It must be so hard." I nodded but I felt equally as bad for her.

"If you don't mind me asking, what was the arena like for you? How did you win?"

She nodded her head but didn't begin to explain for a couple minutes...
