L's point of view

I shifted my straw back and forth in my cup as I was staring at Light. He was dressed casually in a blue sweater and some jeans while I wore the same long sleeve white shirt with black baggy jeans as usual. I don't know why he brought me here. In this café. What's his game? What does he want me to say? There has to be something going on. Is it possible that he just wants lunch? Nearly impossible. He just said that he wants to prove his innocence. So I'm curious of what he has to say. I want how this was play out. Start to finish.

He doesn't look uncomfortable. Although haven't started talking yet. He flashes me a smile, making me flinch I mutter "bastard..." Maybe he's making ME his game.

"So I hope you know that I took you here to get the know you better" he says while looking at his menu.

I don't reply.

I also look at the menu and order dark roast coffee with cream filled donuts. Light only orders a caramel mocha.

Silence fills between us.

Finally he says, "So other than catching bad guys what do you do for fun?" He asks.

This question honestly strikes me. I didn't know whether I should've answered. Not because I'm suspicious of him-because I am—but because I don't actually know what I like to do for fun. I really don't have a hobby.

...Don't let it show...

"I don't know." I finally said.

He's face looked confused but then suddenly he burst into laughter. I was shocked and embarrassed. What the hell is wrong with him? Was he laughing because he thought I didn't have a life?

"Sorry—" he chuckled. "It's just that I didn't know that that was coming even though I should have."

Ouch I thought. What was that supposed to mean? He doesn't know anything about me. That's why we're here. Not showing my feelings I decided not to reply or say anything to what he said. It was now my turn to ask the questions.

"Why did you join the case?" I ask.

He freezes, in the middle of sipping his coffee he doesn't bother to finish. His puts down the mug and place a crooked smile on his face.

"Ummm... What do you mean?"

"I mean, why did you decide to join the case? I thought you would want to study and all. You are the smartest person at your school right?"

He tighten his jaw. Looking the slight of pale but keeping it together. Is he trying to hide something.

"I've always wanted to grow up being like my father. I look up to him and when I found out about the case——I just couldn't help myself."

"You do realize that you're one of the prime suspects for being Kira?" I said not hiding the snark in my voice but definitely hiding my grin.

Light comes over the table suddenly. He leans in close with his hands closed in on each other. He is now less than a feet away from me.

"Exactly and that's another reason. I don't know and I don't know how you think I'm Kira. I want to prove my skills and find the bastard as much as you do."

My smile fades.

For some reason the way he said it made me feel uncomfortable. I slid back into my chair and I thought to myself. Is the words that he's saying are really true? I can't tell. I don't know what to think anymore.

...no he's lying, he has to be...

He sits back into his chair and loses his serious expression. He's face loosen but not taking his eyes off of me. He expects me to respond but I have no answer. It wasn't a question. Finally turning his eyes onto the windowsill I put my head down.

I don't know what has come over me. I'm suppose to be suspicious of him. I'm not suppose to——I CANT believe what he's saying. Why am I even thinking about this. This can't go on. I already know it's him. Why? Why did I agree to this?

"L, can I ask you a question?"

No.

"Yes." I replied sheepishly.

"I know you might have some  'proof' about how I might be Kira——even though I'm not but...do you have some proof that I possibly CANNOT be Kira?"

"Light..." I pause.

Do I tell him?

No. It will only make him know what he can and can't do.

What do I tell him then?

"Sorry I should have known that you can't tell me." He said smiling to himself.

"Yes." I said harshly. If that's even possible. His smile drops.

"To be honest I don't know why I even agreed to this. We're not friends and we'll never be. I know what you are, Light. You can't fake me with an innocent smile and coffee."

He looked confused and hurt, which make me feel even more uncomfortable.

"We will not do this again. I might see you at the hotel but that's it." I said.

My body is stiff but I can feel how my words are like daggers. How else can I put it? I can't trust him. He's faking his emotions. Hell, I bet he doesn't even have any. His a killer.

I stand up.

"L—Ryuzaki! I didn't mean to upset you but I don't understand." He says standing up as well.

"I'm sure you don't." I say with gritted teeth. I walk out leaving Light. Leaving him looking hurt, but I could have sworn from the corner of my eye I saw him grin.

I've always liked his grin.
