I look up to my dad, who was staring straight ahead. "Why aren't we allowed to get a broom?" I squeeze his hand tighter.
Sighing and looking down at me, he answered, "Not everyone will be on the Quidditch team right?"
Dad and I have spent all day getting supplies from Diagon Alley ranging from robes and books. The only things that I need to get a wand and an owl. I never really fancied frogs, toads, and well cats, they can't send letters, can they?
My heart raced as I rushed into Ollivanders. To be completely honest, I'm quite nervous. "Er, Mr. Ollivander? Hello? Is anyone there?"
"Ah! Miss Black. I was wondering when you were going to come. It seems to me your parents came here just yesterday when they got their first wands." I nodded back in admiration of his memory.
Olivander was an old man. His fingers are long and bony with wrinkles all over. After handing me wand after another, I grew impatient.
"Mr. Ollivander, why can't I just have any wand," I spoke while fiddling with my hands.
"Well you see Miss Black, the wand chooses its owner. Not the owner himself. Try this one," he said, as he handed me a wand.
I gave it a wave. A casual wave and a warm gush of wind filled the room. I look around shocked and then looked at Olivander.
My mouth gaped open, I did not know what to do. "What's going on Mr. Olivander?"
"It seems to be that - that wand has chosen its owner."
I stood there awestruck. My hand was sweaty, I swallowed hard.
"That would be 12 galleons, Miss Black."
I handed him 12 galleons. "Thank you. Goodbye," I greeted.
He smiled and waved. "Goodbye Miss Black. I foresee some great deeds ahead of you."
Okay. That was weird. I didn't understand.
The platform was filled with people, both witches, wizards, and muggles. After circling the area a bit, we found the platform with the shiny red train.
I hugged my Dad really tight before getting onto the train. A few tears came rolling down like raindrops.
"Melissa, you better go. Owl me whenever you need to okay? I'll miss you a lot. And of course, your mum will miss you too. Even though she is in Azkaban."
"Yes, Dad. Okay. I'll owl you after the feast. I promise I'll tell you everything. Promise." I wipe my eyes with my wrist and arm. Quickly, I hug my dad for one last time.
I've been looking everywhere. No empty compartment to be seen. Suddenly, I see one! But, there is a brunette boy sitting there reading Quidditch Through The Ages. Careful and politely,
I opened the compartment door. "Hey. Um. Er. Do you mind if I sit here with you? Because this is the only empty compartment I can't find," I explain.
"Er. Yeah sure. I'm Oliver, Oliver Wood. And you are?"
"Melissa Alexis Black. Is that a book about Qudditch?"
"Yeah. Why?"
"I am literally obsessed with it!"
"Wait a minute. Aren't you who I think you are? Bloody hell you are! Are you Bellatrix Lestrange's and Regulus Black's daughter? Regulus Black was the playing for Slytherin at his time."
"Yep."
Jumping out of the train, I smiled at Oliver. I look around, with adrenaline pumping through my veins.
"Look there," Oliver hints quietly.
I quickly turn my head to the direction where he was pointed.
"First Years! First Years look this way. I'm Rebus Hagrid. But please call me Hagrid. Follow me!". Everyone looked at him with awe. He was extremely tall and looked somewhat of a giant. He was significantly hairy. Like a fur ball!
Oliver and I followed him together. "How do you think Hogwarts looks like," I asked Oliver.
"I don't bloody know really. But we will find out soon right?"
"So. Oliver, which Qudditch team do you support"
"Oh. I support Puddlemore United. They are the best"
"Why? And how? Can't you just support Holyhead Harpies and Falmouth Falcons?"
"Why would I root for the team that never wins?," Oliver joked.
I stuck my tongue out at him.
"Okay. Alright. I'm sorry. I surrender. Okay?" Oliver put his hands in the air and smirked mischievously.
"Do you have any siblings?"
"Nope. Just me. Because you know. My mum. How about you?" With my eyes wide open I looked at him attentively.
