s: *blinks himself awake and immediately notices the small presence in his arms - frowns and opens his eyes, tilting his head confusedly when he sees mitch, but he slowly remembers what happened last night and curses quietly to himself*

m: *stays peacefully asleep*

s: *starts to try and carefully untangle himself from mitch's arms, wanting to at least brush his teeth before all the other patients wake up*

m: *makes a small noise in his sleep and moves closer*

s: *sighs and gives up, allowing mitch to cuddle him*

m: *suddenly pulls back, staying asleep, and nears the edge of the bed*

s: *frowns and reaches forward to carefully pull him back, not wanting him to fall off*

m: *whines quietly and rolls away again, this time rolling off the bed and waking up with a small groan when he hits the ground*

s: *sighs and gets up, carefully stepping over him to kneel at his side* you okay?

m: *nods slightly and curls up*

s: *smiles tiredly* did you sleep okay?

m: *nods again and closes his eyes*

s: *carefully picks him up again and sets him back on his bed*

m: *burrows under the torn up sheets and starts to fall back asleep*

s: *stares at him for a moment, his lips pressed together, before he slowly starts to leave the room*

m: *falls asleep*

s: *relaxes and leaves the room fully, running his hand through his hair*

~noon~

m: *jumps awake and sits straight up in bed, looking around*
m: *stands up slowly and walks out of his room, and into the cafeteria - glances around nervously at all the other patients*

s: *walks into the cafeteria, keeping watch on all the patients*

m: *walks hesitantly over to an empty table and sits down*

s: *spots him and smiles slightly, but quickly suppresses it - the doctors aren't supposed to show favoritism*

m: *crosses his arms and sets his chin on his arms, looking around again*

s: *rips his gaze away from mitch and tries to keep watching, but he almost always looks back at mitch*

m: *looks down at the table and plays with his fingers absentmindedly*

s: *smiles again and gives up, just watching him*

m: *brings his legs up to his chest and wraps his arms around them instead, setting his chin on his knee*

s: *jumps as another patient starts talking to him and hurriedly tries to pay attention*

a.p.: hi! how are you? i'm good, i think... *shrugs* my mommy is coming by today! did you know it's visiting day? i did.

s: *smiles* yes, i did.

a.p.: it's gonna be really fun 'cause everyone gets to see their mommy and daddy!

m: *glances up at scott and sees him talking with another patient - feels a pang of jealousy, but quickly looks away so he wouldn't get himself in trouble*

s: *his smile flickers* not all patients do.

a.p.: *tilts her head confusedly* why?

s: *shakes his head sadly* sometimes they don't want to see their children.

a.p.: *frowns* that's mean...

s: *quietly* i know.

a.p.: okay. that's all. bye! *rushes back to her table*

s: *laughs quietly and turns back to mitch*

m: *he overheard their conversation and is staring at the ground with his lips pressed together*

s: *his smile flickers again - he knows mitch hasn't seen his parents ever since he got here two years ago*

m: *sniffles quietly and quickly wipes his eyes*

s: *hesitates a moment before making his way over and setting a gentle hand on his back - softly* mitchie?

m: *jumps and looks up at him - speaks before he can ask if he's okay* i-i'm fine.

s: *frowns, rubbing circles* are you sure?

m: *doesn't answer and looks down at the floor*

s: *frowns more and gently stands him up so he can wrap him in his arms, hugging him gently*

m: *lets him do whatever he wants and leans against him, biting his lip*

s: *keeps rubbing slow circles on his back* i'm sorry, mitchie.

m: it's fine.

s: no, it's not, i-

m: *quieter* it's fine.

s: *hugs him tighter* mitchie...

m: *falls silent and squeezes his eyes shut, sniffling quietly*

s: *softly* don't cry.

m: *shakes his head and holds onto his shirt weakly and bites his lip harder when a tear slips down his cheek*

s: *frowns* aw, baby... *pulls back to gently cup his cheek and brush away his tears*

m: *blinks his eyes open and looks at him with teary eyes*

s: *frowns more and resists the urge to kiss him* please don't be sad.

m: *sniffles again and looks away*

s: *pulls him into another hug, still frowning*

m: *leans against him and cries quietly, giving up on trying to hold his tears back*

s: *feels his heart break a little and holds him tighter, murmuring* it's okay, mitchie. don't cry. i'm sorry.

m: *clings onto him and sobs softly, burying his face in scott's shoulder*

s: *runs his hand along his back, frowning more*

m: *tries to force himself to be quiet as the whole cafeteria quiets down, turning to look at them*

s: *glances up at all the staring patients, frowns, then gently leads mitch out of the cafeteria*

m: *follows timidly, staring at the floor the whole time*

s: *keeps his arm around mitch's shoulders, rubbing comforting circles on his arm* do you want to go to your room?

m: *nods slightly, not looking up*

s: *nods and leads him to his room, closing the door softly behind them*

m: *wraps his arms around himself and sobs again, leaning against scott*

s: *carefully lays down in mitch's bed and adjusts mitch so he's half on top of him, rubbing his back*

m: *moves closer to him and sniffles, hiding his face in scott's chest*

s: *moves his arm down so it's around mitch's waist*

m: *closes his eyes and grips onto his shirt*

s: *whispers* i'm so sorry.

m: shakes his head slightly, but stays silent

s: *kisses his hair* is there anything i can do to make you feel better?

m: *shakes his head and realxes, staring to fall back asleep*

s: *frowns slightly, but doesn't protest, holding him closer*

m: *drifts off to sleep*
