❝But you're saying it's a Soviet bullet?❞
Lina Batiste is a bright, young twenty-something trying to hit the ground running with her second career after leaving the Army. She's a mom, a wounded veteran, and single.
But a Purple Heart can't solve the string of strange murders occurring across D.C., all imitating Cold War assassinations. Is it the work of a copycat, or of the elusive Winter Soldier?

Author's Note:
The OC cop romance AU nobody asked for.
No affiliation with the television show "Rookie Blue". I had no idea it was a telly program until I googled the title, but it had been the working title so long I couldn't bear to change it.
This is my attempted homage to every 1980s to early 2000s ChickFlick movie and ChickLit book ever produced. I would also like to give a S/O to myself for finally finding an application for the horrendous amounts of terrible True Crime documentaries and cop telly programs I waste hours watching.
I chose a vignette style for this, so the story goes from interconnected separate scenes instead of a consistent this-then-this-then-this-then-this. I do not get a S/O for publishing this at midnight, eight hours before my English exam.
Featuring a Hispanic OC protagonist, her cheeky 12-year-old daughter, her supportive and affluent black extended family, her ex-fiance and his gorgeous girlfriend, horrible attempts at dipping into the dating pool, an out of time soldier readjusting to the world post-SHIELD, actual angel Sam Wilson, and an amnesiac ex-Sniper who just wants to be left alone.
Updates:
Will be updated weekly (hopefully), and may be patchy from no until after the 16th of November 2016 (due to exams). I have 4 chapters written (at a total of 10,000 words). This will be cross-posted to FF.Net and Ao3 under the username Winchester_werewolf.
Edits and revisions of chapters may also happen. Don't be surprised if the cover changes. Cast listings for additional characters or background characters will be on each chapter (though please envision characters however you like, I use the casting for your benefit!). (I could only find Hispanic actors playing police officers in Sheriff's Department uniforms; Lina is in blues).

Warnings:
This story contains graphic depictions violence. It also deals with an analysis of Operation Enduring Freedom and the military from the protagonist's perspective. It also makes reference to PTSD, sexual abuse in the military, and does contain slurs and derogatory terms.
My duty as an author is to write from a humanist perspective, and I want to say completely and honestly that I do not share any views expressed by the characters in this story. Like writing from a cow's point of view doesn't mean I moo and chew cud, capisce?
References:
I researched as much as I could. All squadrons and military commentary is as accurate as I could make it from an outsider's perspective who lives across the Pacific ocean. If one thing I mentioned is honky, please point it out to me.
All police numeric codes are (internet) accurate for the District of Columbia. Unless otherwise stated, all things mentioned are referenced including food, Americanisations, Military slang, and types of bubble bath available in the Continental US (because I'm pernickety like that).
