I stared through squinted eyes at the large figure sitting across from me. Jacob got to the house earlier than me which wasn't a surprise. The traffic had been slow and Jacob was fortunate to have a choice in how he traveled.
From the moment I opened the door he was running around making ice cream milkshakes and flicking through channels for my favourite shows but no amount of food or television would distract me from the reason I invited him over. Of course Fonso had come in soon after shunning us for not calling him to make it properly before running back out.
"It's good right?" Jacob said raising the full cup.
"Yup" I said not breaking my stare.
"Best one I've made!" He glanced at the kitchen's television avoiding my glare.
"Yup"
"So..." He mumbled into his cup and I could tell my silence was making him uncomfortable.
"I'm your best friend, Jacob" I pointed out after clearing my throat slightly.
"I know" he said.
"And I can always tell when you're lying" I said.
"I know" he repeated quietly.
"So are you going to tell me why my two closest friends are acting so weird?"
"We're not acting weird. There is zero weirdness"
"That's a lie. If you don't tell me Anya definitely will so you may as well spill the beans"
"Okay. Fine. After I threw Anya in the pool I jumped in and we were splashing each other and then she was swimming after me and I guess at some point she kissed me"
"You kissed" I screeched to which he simply shrugged "You kissed! Finally! Do you know how long I've been waiting for this? You two have liked each other since the beginning of time"
"We have?"
"Yeah! She's always looking at you and blushing and she never laughs at jokes but she always laughs at yours and I catch her staring all the time"
"I never really realised" he said making me roll my eyes.
"Are you guys going to go out now?" I said excitedly.
"I think that's what she wants. She was trying to have a private conversation with me all day but I kept blowing her off"
"What? Why?"
"I wasn't sure if that's what it was. Who knows what goes on in girls heads?"
"We're not that confusing" I said then slurped on the last of my drink.
"You definitely are"
"What do you mean?" I said.
"Ive never met anyone so smart yet clueless at the same time" he said shaking his head.
"Still don't understand" I said then slurped the last of my drink.
"Never mind"
"Now who's confusing" I teased.
"I wouldn't make any assumptions about the male species based on my actions" he said.
