Hazelstar leaned closer to Spottedfeather and licked the top of her striped silver head. "I am understanding. Go on."
"I know you are, Hazelstar." Spottedfeather continued. "Do... do you remember that cat that I brought into the Clan?"
"Yes." Meowed Hazelstar. "He was a little strange. You found him almost drowning at the border of ShadeClan as a kit."
Spottedfeather meowed, "well... about that. He never drowned. I was going to Twolegace to find a kit to bring into the Clan."
"What?" Hazelstar mewed in surprise. Hazelstar hated rouges and kittypets and she believed this whole time he was Clanborn!
"Let me explain!" Spottedfeather pleaded. "Look, I brought him into the Clan and saying he is from AshClan so you would take him in."
"Why would you do that?" Hazelstar asked.
Spottedfeather looked down at her silver paws. "My plan was to have him kill a cat that I hate. I brought that Twoleg kit out every night to teach it killing moves that I made up and found effective."
Hazelstar forced her fur to stay flat. "Was it Glistenfire?"
"Yes" Spottedfeather sighed. "My plan worked. He is now dead. But that kit I broughed in, you named him a warrior name, Iceclaw." Spottedfeather looked up at the sky. "Iceclaw, that poor kit that I taught killing moves to, he is now planning to drive us out of Clan territory."
Hazelstar gasped.
"Those moves, I didn't know it would make his heart turn dark." Spottedfeather looked at Hazelstar. "I'm sorry!"
Hazelstar stared at her reflection in the water in disbelief. This was her fault. Hazelstar recalled the moment she killed an apprentice of her own Clan way back a long time ago. Spottedfeather inherited her lack of sanity. Only if Hazelstar led her Clan better.
"Spottedfeather," meowed Hazelstar. "I will share what you have done with the Clan. You will have to work extra hard in the next moons to come to regain some cats' trust. I will drive Iceclaw out and then I'll think about what to do with you."
Hazelstar and Spottedfeather padded back to the cave. A cool air engulfed them as they padded through the entrance.
Hazelstar padded up to a stone ledge and jumped on it. "Every cat join beneath the stone ledge for a Clan meeting!"
Cats swarmed the clearing and sat under the ledge. The senior warriors sat up in the front. A queen, named Rainpelt, sat outside the nursery. Her kits tumbled after her. Rainpelt shoved her kits back in the nursery with a sweep of her storm-gray tail.
"Alright, cats of DuskClan," Hazelstar announced. "I have learned something from our medicine cat, Spottedfeather."
The cats below murmured to each other in confusion.
"It's not an omen, so don't get too excited." Hazelstar took a deep breath. "I banish my daughter, Spottedfeather, from DuskClan."
"What did she do?"
"Explain!"
"What?"
Hazelstar heard the commotion her Clanmates were creating. Hazelstar's burned with distress. She rose her voice to make herself heard. "Listen up!" Hazelstar explained. "Know Iceclaw? He is not what he seems, all of us has been lied too. He is planning to wage war on us. Spottedfeather brought him in just to kill Glistenfire. So I banish her."
Spottedfeather gasped from the back of the crowd, her eyes lighting up in surprise. Hazelstar felt bad, but what else was she suppose to do? Hazelstar remembered when she killed that apprentice when she was younger. All that hate... the rage... all of those thoughts and voices... her instincts screaming at her. She knew how Spottedfeather felt. Was it wrong to banish her?
