The curtains are drawn to reveal daylight and the view from outside of Isobel's window.
She is getting ready to go to work.Raymond is running through the streets, he's in a hurry.
She has gotten all she needs and makes her way downstairs and outside, closing the door.
Raymond is still running, but slows down as he reaches a corner. He is watching her as she goes to work.
She goes round a corner and is lost in her own thoughts.
He watches. He runs around the houses and side-streets. He makes it to the corner and spies round, seeing her closer; he walks casually along the street.
She looks up and acts surprised to see him. "What a coincidence, bumping into you, of all people!" She said.
"How are you? I haven't seen you in a while."
"I've got a job now; I work in that café across the road," she points to the cafe.
"How's Brendan?" She asked.
They both walk on together.
"He's fine. Have you and him fallen out?" He said.
"No! Whatever makes you say that?"
"Nothing, forget I said anything, It's just that I thought he was upset about something between you two."
She thinks to herself. "No, no there's nothing the matter with me and Brendan."
"It's just that he's been working hard the last while and hasn't been able to spend as much time as he'd like with you."
"I understand."
"He told me to tell you that he'd like for you to see him tonight, maybe. You see there is pub around the corner and I'd like you to come, I mean we'd like you to come along."
She smiles. "I'd be delighted," she said.
They stop walking as she fixes her bag on her shoulder. "I'd better be careful in future, there are just too many things that I'm just too damn predictable at," she winks at him as she kisses his cheek. She waves goodbye as she makes her way across the road.
He stands on the footpath and watches her until she goes into the café.
She closes the door of the café and says hello to staff. Isobel goes behind the counter to get her apron.
One of the waitresses, Anna notices Raymond standing across the street. "There's that strange fella, looking over here, I think he fancies you," Anna said.
Isobel looks out of the window. "It's only, Raymond."
"He's a strange one I've seen him about a lot, never says a word, only stares, strange."
Isobel gets very defensive of Raymond. "Maybe he's got nothing to say to you, maybe he's looking for something to say to express how he feels. Sometimes you can tell a lot from a person by just the way they look at you."
Anna's not listening to her. "I'm going to scare him away." She goes out of the café, leaning out the door and waves to Raymond, blowing him a kiss.
He leaves, looking embarrassed.
"Why did you do that for?" Isobel said.
"I was only teasing him."
The Manageress has been observing all of this. "Anna you have a lot to learn. That poor fella was doing no harm. Sometimes you forget what adoration is, all I see is that young fella is someone who is taken with this young girl here. It's a romantic thought which is sometimes forgotten in these times we live in. Call me old-fashioned, but it's nice for a man to pursue a girl, it makes her feel, important, it's nice to be wanted."
"Ah, go away with you," Anna said dismissively.
The manageress just shrugs. She goes about her work, resting a hand on Isobel's shoulder as she passes.
"You're an old romantic fool. I know a weirdo when I see one," Anna said.
Isobel goes about her work thinking about what Anna had just said about Raymond.
