10 years later...
I walked soundlessly into the snow coated forest. The trees were bare with a sheet of frost covering every inch of them. It was the middle of December and food was running out.
I spotted a skinny deer attempting to find food in the snow covered ground. With a quick flick of my arm i was aiming my arrow at tonights dinner.
I loosened my grip on the arrow and hit the deer square in the head. I walked up to it and started to cover it with a thin layer of snow. Once the deer was unnoticeable, i put two large branches in an X over it to mark my spot, so i could hunt further away without people finding my deer.
I walked for a wile and climbed a tree in an attempt to see more animals. Once at the top, i pulled the hood of my light brown cloak to feel the welcomed chill of snow on my face.
In the corner of my eye, i saw movement. I had my bow ready in the beat of a heart. I looked closer. It was a hunter, and by the looks of it he was a teenager, like me. He slowly crouched down, spotting game. I looked in the same direction as him seeing a surprisingly fat deer for the middle of winter. I couldn't help myself. I released one of my arrows at the deer. It was a long distance away, but i hit its heart. I never missed.
The hunter boy stood confused. I dropped to the ground so gracefully that only a someone listening would hear, pulling my hood up quickly. I ran toward the dead deer, before the boy had time to consider what he was seeing. I grabbed the deer and flung it over my shoulder.
A searing pain shot through my ankle, making me trip. I barely felt the pain, the shock was the thing that made me fall.
The boy walked up to me. Big mistake. My hand slipped into my cloak, holding the hilt of my dagger.
"well, well, well, what do we have here? You know what the price of steeling my prey is? Death." he said simply, like it was an everyday thing. Maybe it was for him. "well sir, let me see your face" he said flicking my hood off of my head.
"you- you're a girl!" his eyes widened. In his moment of shock i stabbed him in the arm. He yowled in pain. I took my dagger and started to run with the deer cradled in my arms. I wasn't as fast as i would have been without an arrow in my ankle. He was gaining on me. I should have stabbed him in the foot!
I made the mistake of looking back and fell on a log that, if i was looking, i would have been able to jump over easily. The boy jumped on my fallen body. Pushing the deer off of me.
"listen" he said." i don't want to hit you, your a gi-" i punched him in the mouth, not letting him finish his sentence. Surprisingly he didn't punch me back. I punched him again. He tried to push my arms to the ground. He was strong, but so was i. I rolled on top of him, and backhand slapped him leaving a red mark. He pushed me back to the ground, holding my arms to the snow.
"we don't nee-" i kneed him in his crotch, making him cry out. I took the advantage and tried to punch his temple, but his hand grabbed mine.
"stop" he said calmly
"your hurt, let me help you"
"no" i mumbled and tried to hit him again, but i suddenly got cold and tired. Fore once, i didn't want to fight.
"okay" i whispered.
A smile came across his face. I didn't trust him, but right now i didn't care.
It was dusk, so we decided to camp out in a clearing without a lot of snow.
"ill get some fire wood stay here."
"wait." he turned to look at me. "never mind." he chuckled, said okay then walked away. For some reason i was going to tell him about the deer i killed and hid, but I decided i didn't trust him with my family's dinner. I heard a snap, I turned. That was quick. I was about to say something to him, but a low, menacing growl in the trees cut me off. I reached for my bow, but it wasn't there.
"no" i whispered to myself.
