Chapter 2

Indi

"no" i whispered. "not today"
I stood facing the pure black wolf dead in the eye. It growled again, making me smile. I pounced to the wolf in unbelievable speed. I wrapped my arms around its neck and... Snap.
I took my dagger out and started to skin the wolf easily. The wolf was the only creature i felt bad for killing, seeing there beauty dead made me upset, but when it came down to me or the wolf, i wasn't going to give up easily.
"um, should i be worried?" his voice broke through my thoughts.
"no" i laughed. "by the way, i never got your name."
"Blake"
"Indi"
Blake smiled as he rubbed sticks together to ignite the fire. After what felt like hours, sparks flew. I didn't realize how cold i was until the fire was big enough to warm my hands and feet.
Blake must have noticed me shivering and came to sit closer to me. Our legs touched, making a chill go through me. Not from the cold. What was happening? I never felt this way towards a boy before.
"so" i said awkwardly. "how old are you?"
"17"
"15"
"why were you hunting?" Blake blurted out, as if he was unable to stop himself.
"well," i said "my family is quit hungry in this cold winter month, and i needed practice..."
"no" he said, annoyed at my cockiness. "your a girl. You should be home. Cooking."
"wow, just because I'm a girl doesn't mean i can't hunt." i said, annoyed that he was just like every other male out there.
"no" he said, his face was red. " i mean, the men you live with let you... Or did you run away?"

"i didn't run. I just get more... Opportunity's ... Then other girls my age." i said, wording my sentence very carefully.
"opportunity's? The village i come from, they whip girls if they do a mans job!" Blake seemed like he needed to cut something, so i handed him my dagger and told him to skin the wolf to cool down.
"I just don't get it." Blake said after a long time of silence. "why do you get to hunt but my sister cant? We obviously live close to each other!"
"what happened to your sister?" i asked him. I was curious, because I've never been to a village before and i didn't know there customs.
Blake seemed to consider telling me, then he nodded and started to ramble
" i took my little sister, she's 12, out to teach her how to hunt, because i need to be married off soon and nobody would be there to feed my sister and mum, because my dad died when i was 10. So i decided Lily needed to know how to get food for the family, so i took her to the edge of the woods and taught her to hold a bow. After a month of training, she was ready to hunt with me, so she shot a rabbit, like- like i told her to..." Blake stopped skinning the wolf and continued
"that's when knights took her midday and tied her to a poll... I tried to get her, but i was tied to a poll too. They brought out a whip and slammed her twenty five times. She cried out louder each time, until she stopped completely, not moving. I-i thought she was dead, but she was just passed out from the pain. Then it was my turn. They slammed me five times, and i- i wished they did five to my sister and twenty five to me. Sh- she's so young, and I've hurt her so badly."
I was so shocked that i couldn't speak i just put my hand on his shoulder and squeezed. He turned and wrapped his arms around me. I stiffened. I was never hugged before. Slowly i let out a breath i didn't know i was holding, and wrapped my arms around him too. We just stayed like that for what seemed like hours, enjoying each others warmth.
"ill kill them" i offered.
"what?" Blake pulled away looking me in the eyes.
"i said i could kill them if you would like. I'm very good at it."
He just laughed. "I'm serious." i looked him dead in the eyes. "i can and i will."
He still looked shocked. "just...think about it." i said smoothing out the ground at the fire until it was smooth.
I wrapped myself in my cloak.
"will you be warm enough?" i asked Blake
"yeah, you?"
"i think so." i said, even tho i was freezing. He must have noticed my shivering, because he came next to me.
"may i?" he whispered in my ear. I nodded. His arm moved around my waist and our eyes met. In any other situation, this would be considered scandalous. But for the sake of not freezing to death, i think the gesture was mandatory.

Okay, i am SO excited to publish this chapter because i feel like you get to know their characters a bit better and in a few more chapters, things will start to get interesting!!!
