Emery's POV:
"OMG, I can't believe I'm going to see my sister again. I stand outside the high school and stare at the front doors. I take a deep breath and open both of the doors. I start walking down the hall when two guys "bump" into me. I crash into the lockers on my left."New kid. Or as we like to call you people, fresh meat." The smaller one sneers. I press my lips together tightly. I know for a fact that I could kick both of their butts and leave them on the ground, but I'm better than that, so I take the abuse. "Ya know, she's kinda cute. Maybe our relationship could be more than just teasing." The smaller one says as he checks me out. He moves in closer to me. That was enough.
"Hey, back off!" I shout and shove him back a few feet.
"Oh! Feisty! I like you even more." He says as he starts to coming closer to me again. Suddenly, my vision is blocked by black leather.
"She said back off!" Another guy stepped in between me and the perv. His voice is calm, yet firm. The perv squints his eyes then scoffs.
"Whatever! I'll have you soon babe!" The perv says then winks.
"Not likely." I respond cold. The perv and his big friend walk away. I let out the breath I didn't know I was holding. My rescuer turns around. His face is strong with very defined features. His hair was a dark brown, as were his eyes. Long nose and pink lips. "Thank you...?" I say and trail off, wanting to know his name.
"Troy, Troy Burrows. You're welcome. Those guys need to learn respect. And you are?" He replies.
"New. This is my first day. I'm Emery, Emery Moran." (Emery is pronounced Eh-Marie)
"I understand your position. I was new a few days ago. But I found great friends. I'll introduce you to them. Let me see your schedule." I reach into my yellow backpack and pull out my schedule and hand it to him. He looks it over.
"Cool! We have the exact same schedule!" He says, maybe a little too excited. I smile, relieved that I will have a familiar face in my classes. The bell rings and we look around and the hallway is clear. "And now we're late for science. C'mon." He leads me down a few more halls and he goes into a door on the left. I don't follow him just yet. I take another deep breath, thinking that my sister could be just beyond that door. The sister I haven't seen or had any contact with since we were five. I finally get enough courage to open the door and step through the doorway. My teacher was kinda a funny-looking one. Kinda like a very thin Albert Einstein.
"Ah. The new student. So glad you decided to join us. I was just asking the class the brain teaser, Which species will out live everything? Emma here said insects. Noah disagreed and said that robots would survive. And finally, Gia pointed out that robots were machines, not a species. What is your opinion?" He asks and the whole class turns to me. I look at Troy and he gives me a reassuring smile. I think for a moment and I have my answer.
"I disagree and agree with both Noah and Gia. Gia is right in the sense that robots aren't a species of flesh and blood. However, Noah is correct in which some robots are superior and can withstand more than any animal or insect. Some robots can think on there own and have feelings." As I finish my sentence, a hand shoots up into the air as if it was a rocket trying to fly to the moon.
"Yes, Noah?" My teacher asks. The class turns their heads to a black guy in glasses and a blue golf shirt.
"That's impossible. There has never been any machine that can have feelings or think on their own. They are robots, they do not understand emotion or human aspects of life. There has been no evidence of that fact." As he finishes, all head turned back toward me for my rebuttal.
"You're a scientist at heart, correct?" I ask.
"Yeah...?" My opponent answers.
"A scientist needs evidence to support their claim or others believe it's not true. I, can give you evidence." I reply. The guy looks skeptical. Then he laughs.
"Haha! I'd love to see what "evidence" you can provide. It's obvious you wouldn't have access to any kind of machinery that some major corporation wouldn't have. You're lying." He crosses his arms and sits back in his chair with a smirk on his face, thinking he's won the battle.
"Ms. Moran, if you actually do have evidence to support your claim, I would love to see it." I nod slightly and dig inside of my backpack. I find my yellow triangle zord with my power symbol on it. I know it's ok to show them because they won't know what it is or what it means. I grab it and display it in my right hand.
"Exhibit A." I say. I walk over to the boy's desk and set it down gently. Then, walk back to front and center of the room.
"Haha! This proves nothing!" He boasts. My zord opens up on its own and turns into the ape. I named my zord April. April starts walking around and jumps down onto the floor and leaps onto the teacher's desk. I hold my hand out to it and it jumps into my hand. A chorus of "whoa!'s" fill the room. My teacher speaks up.
"Well, I believe Ms. Moran has beaten you at your own game Noah. Well, put Emery." I smile.
