There's many lost, but tell me who has won?/ The trench is dug within our hearts/ And mothers, children, brothers, sisters torn apart
- Sunday Bloody Sunday by Paramore (original song by U2)
There is a planet that is galaxies away, floating in a bubble of time that no one can get into or out of. Well, actually, it's not so much a bubble as a linear progression of time that does not match that of the rest of the universe, but for your sake, just think of it as a bubble. This is Gallifrey, my home.
Gallifrey used to be an amazing planet. Its people, the Time Lords, used to be friendly and well traveled. Well traveled is an understatement, actually. The Time Lords were, as the name implies, masters of time and space, travelers who had discovered how to manipulate the space-time vortex to go wherever they wanted. Basically. There were some rules and regulations to follow, but that's irrelevant. Anyway, it was perfect. Brilliant people, beautiful landscapes, and the most advanced technology in the universe at our disposal.
That is, until the Time War. When a race of aliens called the Daleks attacked, we fought tooth and nail. We used every weapon we could think of, and even some we had forbidden. But it was no use. For every Dalek we killed, another took its place. Soon it became a game of just trying to stay alive. How long could we hide in one spot until we were discovered and had to leave before we were killed. I lost contact with my family, and assumed they were dead. I lived for myself and no one else. As cruel as that sounds, that's war for you.
Thankfully for all of us, our savior came right before we lost hope and gave up. He came in the form of 13 Time Lords and their TARDISes, pulling our planet out of its former position and into the pocket of the universe that we're in now. The high council refused to tell the masses who 12 of their saviors were, but one of my friends who was on the council at the time did tell me who one of them was. The Doctor. A man who I hadn't seen since the Time War began had saved our entire planet. But this gave me hope for a different reason. My friend told me he had fled after he pulled Gallifrey out of reach of the Daleks, that they didn't know where he had gone. But that detail didn't matter. I began to form my plans that very moment. No matter how long it was going to take and no matter what I had to do, I was going to find the Doctor.
I was going to find the father I thought was dead. And no law or Time Lock was going to stop me. I was the Doctor's daughter. And if he could end the Time War, I could find a way out of the planet-wide lockdown and get to him.
A/N Welcome to my first ever Doctor Who fanfiction! I hope you liked it, and if you're willing to stick with me, you're in for a ride! Thanks for reading, and feel free to drop me a line in the comments!Edit: I've gone through and added song lyrics that I believe fit with parts of the chapter to the beginning of every chapter. As you can tell, this song is about what the war has done to them, even though that's not what the entire chapter is about. :) Link to the song is in the sidebar.
