I groaned and covered my face. I was as red as a tomato, and I could feel heat radiating off of my face. Green smiled and leaned back in his chair.
"Well?" he asked impatiently. "What do you think?"
I peeked at him from behind my hands. His cheeks were slightly red also, and he was giving me an embarrassed sort of smile.
"I'm not your girlfriend," I mumbled. "Fix it." I paused.
"And, they used the wrong 'has'. It should be 'had'."
Green chuckled. "Too late. Once I say something, it becomes a huge deal," he explained. "Listen, I'm probably gonna get some calls, so hang tight."
Sure enough, Green's pokegear began to ring. Looking at the number, Green raised an eyebrow.
"Hey, Blue," he said. "What's up?"
A very girly, whiny voice spoke on the other end. "Greenie," it whined. "You never told me you had a girlfriend!"
Green winked at me. "Sorry, Blue," he apologized. "I didn't have time to tell you."
"But, Greenie," the voice persisted. "It was a very romantic thing of you to pick her up and carry her. Did you kiss her yet?" Blue teased.
Green blushed. "What?" he asked, stalling.
"Awww, Greenie, I can see your blush from here!" Blue giggled. "Well, I gotta go, see you soon!" She hung up. I stared at Green.
"Who is she?" I asked, trying not to sound jealous. What was I jealous about?
Green noticed my jealousy. "Hey, there, Regina," he chuckled. "I'm not dating her. no need to be protective."
I glared at him. "I'm not being protective," I shot back. "Just curious."
Green smiled. "Uh huh. Anyways, she's an old friend of mine. Can be annoying, but I tolerate her."
Green's phone began to ring again. He looked at the caller and frowned. "Oh, no," he said, and picked it up.
"Yo, Green!" a male voice shouted. His voice was deafening, and I covered my ears.
"Gold." Green sighed. "Anything new?"
The voice shouted into the Pokegear again. "Yeah, somethin's new!" Gold yelled. Green winced. "You've picked up a hot chick for yourself!"
I turned red. I opened my mouth to speak, but Green silenced me with a wave of his hand.
"Says the guy who has bikini models on his wall, not to mention a body pillow," Green retorted. "When are you gonna pick up a REAL girl?"
I almost gasped out loud. So this guy was the hot chick freak. Figures.
Gold was silent for a moment. "That's a diversion," he whispered. Green's mouth fell open.
"What?" he asked.
Gold sighed. "Silver asked me out yesterday," he said quietly. Now it was my turn to gape. Gold had a girlfriend?
Green gasped. "What? He asked you out?" he asked incredulously.
My mouth fell open further. Silver was a boy?
"He did," Gold replied. "He took me out for dinner and at the end, he said something real sentimental and asked me out."
I covered my mouth in shock, and I saw Green trying not to cry/laugh/scream. I didn't know which emotion it was.
"That's... so sweet of him," Green managed.
"Yep," Gold answered. "Real sweet. Anyways, I gotta go. Don't tell anyone, if Crys finds out she's gonna get mad, I heard she has a crush on me." There was a pause. "Figures, cuz who doesn't fall for a hot guy like me?"
Green rolled his eyes. "I certainly don't," he shot back. Hanging up the pokegear, he turned around to find me staring at him. Green smiled.
"Gold's a noisy, rambunctious pest sometimes," he explained. "Silver's a quiet, emotional kid. They go well together."
"So you ship them," I said, remembering a term I had read about in a book.
Green nodded. "Yeah, that," he said.
His pokegear started ringing again. Green picked it up.
"Hello?" he asked. "Oh, hey Red! Yes, I'm fine." He paused, listening.
"Misty giving you trouble?" Green asked. Nodding his head, he listened to Red's response.
"Yeah, I know you like Yellow. Yep. Thanks." He hung up, grinning goofily.
"Well, that's another pair I ship," he said, noticing my accusing look.
I decided I was done with this "romantic" stuff. Getting up, I picked up my bag. "Can we go now?" I asked. Green nodded.
"Yeah, sure." I walked out of the Pokemon Center, and laid my eyes on Cherrygrove City for the very first time. I sat down, hard.
The city wasn't really a city, just a few modest looking houses, and a couple of buildings. Rolling waves surrounded the city on two sides, and the sun reflected off the water, giving it a glittery, sparkly effect. Beaches, pristine and neat, were filled with shining golden sand. The sweet, crisp smell of flowers were in the air, and colorful patches of plants lined the paths. Sunflowers flanked the houses, leaning towards the shining sun, and window-boxes hung out of every window. Flowers sprouted inside the boxes, and waved cheerfully in the breeze. Pidgeys and spearows serenaded the air with their sweet birdsong, and butterfrees danced around the flowers, pausing to sip nectar. People walked around with their pokemon, and I could tell each had a strong bond with their partner. Laughter and talking filled the air, complimenting the sweet smell of the flowers and melodious birdsong. It was the perfect picture of tranquility.
I felt a hand on my shoulder, gently pulling me up. I turned around and saw my reflection in Green's viridescent eyes. He was smiling.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" he asked. I nodded in reply.
"There's no gym here," he continued. "So if we went city to city, we would've skipped it. Do you regret that now?"
I shook my head. "No I don't," I breathed. "I don't want to miss anything else like this." I was completely, and utterly in awe of this city. It was really hard to do, but I tore my eyes away from the scenery and directed them to the path ahead.
"Let's go," I said, and made a beeline for the route, Green half a step behind.
