Xavier's POV
"Mom? Dad?" I call out as I dash down the stairs. Where could they be? I wonder silently, the pack meeting was about to begin and it wasn't like my parents to be late. Heading to the kitchen, I spot my younger brother wolfing down some chips, "Josh, have you seen mom or dad? They're going to be late from the meeting." Josh jumps, turning to face me in the process, and I catch sight of the mess he's made on his shirt and the chips on the ground I can't help but let out a little laugh.
"Mom's gonna kill you when she sees this, you know that right?" I mention jokingly. He grins sheepishly, "Well, it's your fault for scaring me like that! And mom will never know because I'll clean it up before she gets back and you'll never tell her, right?" Josh widens his eyes and tries the puppy dog look. Utterly failing of course. I walk over and ruffle his hair, "Sure little bro, so where did mom go?"
He glares at me for a while, trying to fix his hair, "Last I heard she took Katie and some of the kids down to the meadow to play. She should have been back by now though." "That's weird, I think I'll head down there to check where they are." Josh just nods in response, already stuffing his mouth with more chips.
I shake my head, smiling, that kid has one huge appetite. A small seed of worry settles in the bottom of my stomach and I quickly mindlink my dad.
Dad? Where are you and mom? You're going to be late for the meeting, is everything alright?
For a while I didn't get a response, but then suddenly my dad's voice entered my head.
Xavier?
His voice sounded worried and anxious, something was wrong. Dad? Where are you? I mindlinked back.
I'm heading to the meadow right now, rougues have been sighted there. Your mom and the children might be in trouble. I need you to gather some back up and get here as soon as possible, understand? I growled softly at the thought of the rougues and his serious tone told me that these rougues weren't going to play around.
Okay, I'll be there as soon as I can. Stay safe.
My heart was pounding in my chest as I quickly linked to my best friend and next-in-line beta, Hunter. Rogues have been spotted. My mom and the kids are in danger. Send back up to the meadow right now.
Got it. He replied.
I headed out the back door and ran towards the meadow in a hurry. Rogues were evil and time was of the essence, I could only hope that my dad could hold them off until back up arrived.
It felt like I was running forever but I couldn't stop, my family was in danger. There was a strangely delectable scent of vanilla in the air and my wolf whined from within me pacing around with unease. Probably worried too I guess. But it felt like something big was going to happen. I shook off my weird thought and tried to focus on reaching the meadow.
As I neared the clearing, using my enhanced vision i was able to catch sight of my parents and the children. Unfortunately, the rogues were there too. I only managed a small breath of relief that they were alive before a grey wolf attacks my dad while he was distracted.
My heart leapt out of my chest. No, no, no, no. I pushed my legs to the limit, desperate to get to my family faster. All of the rogues were about to take the opportunity and attack when all of a sudden a girl runs forward and raises her arms in the direction of the rogues. Something about her surfaced my wolf as he clawed from within, he didn't like this girl being in danger.
Just as I reached the meadow, this huge blast of energy came from the girl. It blasted most of the rogues a good ten metres away and from what it looked, the blast killed all but one wolf that scamped in the direction of the forest.
