a/n: This piece is my entry in our school's competition during the Deaf Awareness Week Celebration last November. Hope you'll enjoy reading. Thanks! :)

------------------------------------

In this world where people can be misunderstood

We try to communicate as much as we could.

Though you may not understand the words we speak

Just hearken please, that would be good enough.

We are blessed with a special gift by the Lord,

We enjoy the pleasure of being in a silent world;

In a peculiar way we share our thoughts,

And express our feelings like anybody does.

They say we’re different—it’s just the result of your prejudice.

If you’ll only learn to mingle with us you’ll discover precious talents within

That would exhume the people like me from obscurity,

No sooner you will understand; we are not distinct.

So long we hoped that the walls of division will crumble down,

To replace happiness to our faces that frowned.

And so we took a step to show others that we can,

And we thank God they appreciate what we’ve done.

May this activity (Deaf Awareness Week)  promotes awareness for the deaf

Lead us to a path where we, hearing or not, walk together without prejudices,

Sharing the same dreams, same vision.

Singing in one voice to a new and bright horizon.
