"If anyone asks me again if I was okay, I'll punch them." I spoke out through gritted teeth.
"They're just concerned because you've been very quiet for the last two weeks." Maya informed me as she sat herself down next to me in homeroom.
"I just don't want to talk to anyone." I told her firmly and ended the conversation by putting my head phones back in. She opened her mouth to retaliate but stopped herself, knowing I wouldn't budge.
Music becomes everyone's best friend after something tragic happens. My last stupid confrontation with Caleb left me scarred for life; I felt overly humiliated and used leading myself to believe I wasn't worth even a dime.
Lana Del Rey's lyrics soon became my bible and everything else became a formality I had complete in order to stay alive. All the boys seemed different around me as well and had this sympathetic expression slapped across their faces which I didn't want.
However I couldn't just abandoned them today at their spring football tournament. My heart ached again the memory of Caleb telling me how his jersey would better on me than him. I shook my head to get his memories out of my head that were unfortunately embedded in my brain.
"I mean why did I even go to him that day?" I asked Maya on our way to first period which I shared with her.
"You wanted closer K..." She told me patiently as this was probably the hundredth time I've asked her the exact question.
"But he just humiliated me and I just stood there like an idiot telling him he would... erghh." I growled in frustration making Maya stop in her tracks.
"Look, K it's been two weeks and I've seen you cry yourself to sleep nearly every night and I'm not having that anymore. I know you need more time BUT you also need a rebound to get over him. So at tonight's after party... I'm getting you a rebound guy." She told me with a wicked smile on her face.
"You know I won't even go to the party."
"Yes you will because I'm dragging you there, I'm not telling you to lose your virginity, I'm just saying... it's no harm to get some sugar." She grabbed my hand and started walking towards the history block.
Flashback
"I don't want to talk to you or see you... so stop following me or texting me." He shouted firmly avoiding my gaze as he tried to walk past me to only have me step sideways to block his path.
"I only want to ask one question." I mentally slapped myself for sounding overly venerable.
"ERGH..." He moved back a couple of feet away from me while running a hand through his untamed tousled raven hair. God I miss doing that myself... "Fine." He shouted over his shoulder as he stood still with his legs parted and his back towards me.
His maroon letterman jacket hung loosely from his shoulders emphasizing his broad back while his light blue ripped jeans hugged his legs perfectly, creasing near his ankle where his dark blue muddy high top remained.
"Did I do anything wrong?"
This was the moment I was preparing myself for a week now with the help from Maya and Saira. We tried to come up with many reasons why he'd do something like that to me; why would he suddenly ignore me and be with someone else. The only valid explanation was that he was simply over me.
"Kira, we weren't together to begin with..." He spoke through gritted teeth as he paced around in discomfort. Although I've been training my heart to stay strong in front of him, I just couldn't help but feel my heart shatter into million pieces all over again.
