***So this begins my second story Scars!***
I chewed on a piece if ice out of my yellow cup, no way I was going to be able to memorize all of these.
I buried my face in my hands and let out a quick scream, a sort of.. Cry for help.
A cry for my Prince Charming to come in, sweep me off my feet, and ride happily into the sunset in a lime green Mustang Convertible.
What?
A girl can dream.
I peeked out from behind my finger shield and chewed on my bottom lip. Earth Science, blah.
Like I said before, no way I was going to be able to memorize 75 questions that could "possibly" be on the finals.
Really?
If I'm gonna study it better be something I at least know that I'll need for the test.
I crunched the frozen water and laying my head back against my headboard.
Eh, enough studying for tonight.
I flipped between windows on my school provided iPad. I know, awesome right? Facebook was my next stop. Four message windows were on the side of my screen.
I know Miss Popular huh?
Ha!
I wrinkled my nose, a habit I do when I get a strong emotion, for example in this case, confusion.
I recognized the first profile picture, Amber, my best friend who lived next to me. "Hey! Gotta message me when you get this! 😊" she had said. I replied with a simple "Hi, what's up?"
Moving on to the next user, Kat, who at times could be the best listener when you needed it. "Meet me by Mr. Chatman's room after E.S."
I didn't reply and moved on to the last two, one from my aunt, telling me her cat Smokey had died.
Boo-hoo.
I opened the last window and was thoroughly surprised, it was Blake. Blake Tanner.
Cute, funny, sparking green eyes, smart, always able to make anyone smile no matter how down they are.
"Hi Jade, umm.. Call me tonight if you can. Around 8:30 would be best,"
Needless to say I nearly choked on a fresh ice cube I had just popped in my mouth. I glanced at the top of the screen, 8:16.
Whew.
It said he had been off for about an hour, shoot. I replied back with a simple "Sounds great!" Not sure if he'd even say anything back.
I spit my ice back into the cup and snuggled farther down into my bed, covered in fuzzy blankets. I scrolled through my News Feed.
Same old same old.
My black cat Shamrock, who was born on St. Patricks Day a couple years ago jumped up on the bed beside me. I giggled and picked her up, setting her in my lap. I glanced over at my alarm clock and bit my lip.
8:28
Two minutes.
Ah, oh well two minutes won't make the biggest difference in the world, right?
I picked up my phone from my white nightstand and quickly found his contact that I had used a while ago when I had... Oh well flashback time...
\\FLASHBACK//
About eight moths ago Blake and I had talked, we hung out a few times at one of the parks by my house and Skyped when we were bored sometimes. I had really liked him and I had thought he had felt the same, I wanted to be more than friends. Badly.
\\END OF FLASHBACK//
I know short flashback right?
I tapped on his contact and hit the call option.
"Here goes nothing" I thought hearing the dial tone as I held my phone against my ear.
After about three rings I heard him pick up.
"Hey Jay," he said, using the nickname I hadn't heard him call me in so long.
"Hi, what did ya need?" I asked, cursing myself for being so rude.
"Oh well umm... To be honest.. I miss you Jade." He said, his voice quiet long as he talked.
I was surprised by this and set my phone down on my comforter pushing the speaker phone button.
"I miss you too Blake," I said quietly. The sleeve on my sweater snaked up a little as I adjusted myself.
The scars.
I quickly pulled it back down to avoid looking at them.
I hated them.
"So umm... How have you been?" He asked trying to make small talk.
"Good," I replied, trying to make my voice as perky as possible without sounding too fake.
I could picture him rubbing the back of his neck with his right hand, pacing around his room as he spoke.
One of his nervous habits.
He spoke hesitantly, as if he'd say the wrong thing as soon as he opened his mouth. "Listen Jade, I was wondering of you'd be willing to meet me after school tomorrow by the fountain."
I nodded then realized he couldn't see me bobbing my head like an idiot.
"Sure! Just as long as you're not gonna push me in it!" I said stupidly, smacking myself in the forehead.
"Umm.. Haha..." He said slowly and I cringed.
"Well I better go, see ya tomorrow," Blake replied
"Yeah, see ya."
Heard a click as he hung up and I collapsed on my bed.
I wondered what he had in store... Maybe he wanted to be friends again, or maybe more.
No.
No he doesn't.
I pulled up my sweater sleeve and gingerly rubbed the scars, wishing they'd just leave.
Just disappear.
Like I used wish I could.
