Niall walks up from behind me and grabs my hand in the process. "Hey." He smiles at me, kissing my cheek.

"Hello." I say, giving him one of the blueberry muffins I made in culinary today.

"Can I have the last one, too?" He asks with puppy dog eyes.

"No can do, Ni. I'm saving it for someone." I state.

"And who might that be?" He ponders.

"Mr. Jameson," I say, referring to our choir director, "So he's not as mad when I don't know my part in the songs."

Niall laughs. "Well I have my part down perfectly." He brags.

"Sure you do, Niall." I say sarcastically.

"What are you trying to say?" He asks defensively.

"Babe, you don't even know the words!" I laugh.

"Um, excuse you. I know every single line."

"Whatever," I say as we reach my class, "I'll see you later."

"See ya, love." He kisses my cheek and walks away to his class.

After school I head straight to the locker room to change for track. Tomorrow is districts so we're supposed to take it easy so we're not too worn out tomorrow.

I head out onto the track. I practice with everyone else, not adding on any extra stuff because of the meet. I head home after.

I hear yelling as I walk up the driveway. I sigh and prepare for what I'm about to walk into.

"You never listen to me!" My mom screams.

"What the hell do you mean?" My dad combats, "All I've done for the last 20 years is listen to you!"

The argument fades away as I make my way upstairs and into my room, slamming the door. I throw my track bag onto the floor and bring my backpack onto the bed. I can still hear the yelling so I turn on some music. I take out my calculus homework and try to focus on it.

The voices are faint, but still there. It's like they're competing with my music on who can be louder and I just can't fucking concentrate. I burst into tears.

I pick up my phone and dial his number. "Niall." I gasp when he picks up.

"May? Babe, what's wrong?" He asks.

"They're fighting again." I whisper.

"Oh, love." He sighs. "Do you want to come over?"

I nod even though he can't see me. "Yeah."

"Okay." He says.

I immediately get up and slide on my Birkenstocks and go as quietly as I can downstairs and out the door.

I walk next door and Niall opens the door before I even have a chance to knock. He pulls me inside and into his arms. I break down against his chest. He holds me tighter. He picks me up and takes me upstairs into his room. He lays me down on the bed and then lays next to me. I continue crying and he continues holding me, stroking my hair and kissing my forehead.

"It's gonna be okay." He whispers, "You're gonna be okay."

"What if I'm not?" I ask him, shakily.

"Don't even say that, Macy. Look at me," He takes my chin to turn my face to him. "You will be okay. I love you, alright? I love you so much. You will be okay because you have me. And you will never not have me."

I pull Niall in for a kiss. My phone buzzes.

mama: can you come home, sweetie? we need to talk to you.

I show Niall the text and stand up. "Niall, I'm scared."

"Macy.... Whatever happens, happens. And it might suck. It might suck a lot. But there's nothing you or anybody else can do about it. Some things just happen. You have to face it, May." He tells me.

"I love you." I say.

"I love you, too." He kisses me before I go back to my house.

I walk inside and my dad tells me to have a seat. "Macy," He says, "Your mom and I have decided to split up."

I stand up and go to walk out.

"Macy!" My mom yells.

"No." I say, "You don't get to spring this on me the day before districts. The day that I have been training like hell for the past two weeks. So no, I will not stay here while you two try to tell me where I will fit into this divorce. I don't have to stand here while you tell me why you came to this decision because, honestly, I don't deserve it. So I'm going to Niall's. I'm going to Niall's because he loves me and he will help me be prepared for tomorrow. Once you two stop being assholes to your daughter, you can call me."

I slam the door on my way out and for the second time I walk across my yard and into Niall's. I open the door without knocking and run into Niall's room.

He sits up and looks at me, waiting for the news. I just shake my head and his face softens.

"How?" I ask. "How the hell am I supposed to race at districts tomorrow when I know that I won't be spending Thanksgiving with both of my parents this year? Or Christmas?"

"This is how." He starts. "You think about all the things you love, okay? You think about music. You think about Makenzie. You think about me." He smiles a little. So do I. "And I'll be there."

"Ni, the meet is all the way in-"

"I don't care. I'll be there. I love you and I'm gonna be there. And I'm gonna be cheering for you louder than anyone else." His smile grows more with each word he says.

I throw my arms around his neck in a hug. "I love you, Niall. I love you so much. I wouldn't be able to do this without you."

"I love you, too, Macy. Now let's go to sleep. It's been a long day. You're gonna kick some ass tomorrow." He says.

I nod, taking off my jeans. I put on a pair of his boxers. Niall comes up behind me and kisses my neck. I tilt my head to give him more access. He lifts my shirt over my head before moving his lips to my shoulder. His hot breath sends shivers down my spine.

I turn in his arms and connect our lips. He grabs my face and deepens the kiss. I pull at the hem of his t-shirt and he gladly takes it off. He gives me one last long kiss before pulling away.

"Think about that while you're racing tomorrow." He states.

I smile at him before putting on his recently discarded shirt and taking off my bra. Niall pulls off his pants and we both climb into his bed.

Niall wraps his arm around my shoulder and I settle into his chest. We fall asleep together.
