Prelude

Before the now, there must once have been a beginning.

Back in their beginning, before the spacious arenas and spotlights, there was the hot footpath and a dodgy camera.

Before the screaming fans and hundred-dollar incomes, there were the sparse crowds of tourists flipping coins into a guitar case.

Before the top-ten hits, there were words scrawled on the backs of receipts.

Before the big black limos, there was a mint green kombi van.

And before the famous friends, there was simply her.

Everyone comes from a humble beginning.

Some people get a grandiose middle or end.

But before you can reach the middle or the end, there must first be a time where it all seemed lost.

A time where plans were made on a whim, where the destination was discovered by a turn of the steering wheel, where song lyrics were scrawled on the backs of napkins and where coins were the most frequent type of currency.

That was the before.

And that was the best part.
