So what is a pop shuvit. A pop shuvit is when your in the air and you push your back foot backwards and it turns 180 degrees, It's basically like a backside 180 without you turning hence why you learn the backside 180 first but personally I think that backside 180's are a lot harder than pop shuvits, any chatting lets get right into the trick.
So the practice step for the pop shuvit is to do just a shuvit, just so your on the same page as me here a shuvit is a pop shuvit just without the pop, with the foot position on the shuvit you're going to want to have your back toes hanging of the side of the tail and your front foot below the front bolts, just to let you know both feet play an important role in this trick but it's mostly all in your back foot. Now for the practice step in the practice step (talk about breaking it down 😂) your gonna scoop the board put your back foot straight down and then catch it with your front foot now remember this is a practice step don't do this too much because there's something known as muscle memory and what it does is makes you think that in order to land a trick you have to put your foot straight to the ground or scoop super hard or something incorrect and after you have done it for a while it drills into your brain and trust me it can sometimes take forever to undo the horrific muscle memory, any once you've got the step down scoop the board to do the shuvit but instead of putting your foot down keep it in the air and wait for your front foot to catch the board and then put your back foot on the board and you have landed the shuvit congrats. Ok so now just do a bunch of shuvits so you've got them super down and then your ready for the pop shuvit. now instead of having your back toes hanging of the side of your tail put your back foot how you would do an Ollie.
The practice step is the exact same but instead of scooping the board make the tail pop like and Ollie and then scoop like a shuvit and put your back foot straight down and keep your front foot in the air to catch it and do that until you've got that step down. Now all you got to do now is land it, easier said than done but if your scared to land do the pop shuvit on a nice soft ground like grass and don't be afraid to fall that's why you're practicing on a soft spot. Once you've done that take it to the cement and commit and you got it.
Common problems with this trick is going straight into the pop shuvit and missing the shuvit practice step so go and do the shuvit and come back to the pop shuvit when you've done that the second problem is not getting the full rotation, easiest way to fix this is to give it a bit more force and if your doing it to hard give it a bit less force the last and most common problem is your back foot goes straight to the ground and it's probably because you're scared but don't worry just try it on grass and take it back to the cement once you feel like you're ready.
If you're having any other problems with your pop shuvit let me know in the comments
