the hill behind the mall on main street has been hers' and her best friends spot for as long as you can remember. she spent many nights up here over the years, always accompanied by a bag of fries and large cups of iced coffee, and although she hasn't seen him in a couple months due to tour-tonight was the same. he picked her up at around 8 and she got to see how much he's grown since she last saw him, with a light sheet of stubble dusting over his chin and his normal skyscraper hairstyle had been swept over his forehead and left in its natural sandy curls which made her heart skip a beat every time she stole a look at them.
"so," he speaks up, taking out his cup of coffee from the bag and leaning on his elbows, looking up at the stars. "what's been on your mind?"
she swallows hard. should she be honest, and tell him how she feels? for god's sake, he's her best friend and she's known him ever since she accidentally spilt glitter in his hair in kindergarten and he'd never look at her as more than a friend, but looking in to those pair of eyes that had become her home illuminated by the lights of the city, she couldn't help it. she cleared your throat awkwardly and picked at the paper bag.
"actually, i, uh- was thinking," she couldn't believe she had stuttered on your words in front of the very person she shared the deepest parts of her mind with. "do you ever think about who you're gonna end up with?" she dared to look in his eyes. "and uh, where you're going and who you want to be by your side for the rest of you life, and not necessarily in a platonic-"
he cut her off with his contagious chuckle and leans over to hold her head in his large hands. "can i kiss you?" he says as he leans his forehead against hers and their lips are brushing together with every word he speaks and she swears she couldn't breathe right.
"fuck yes."
