She picks me up at 11.
I climb out of my window on to my roof that is now wrapped in vines, each looking at me as if they have eyes and knowing they're gonna trip me. I know I'm gonna have to power wash this stupid bricked roof as a punishment if my parents ever find out, but right now, for the first time, I don't care.
I run a hand through my hair as i figure out how I'm going to get down without breaking my ass. I could see her laugh hysterically through the tinted windows of her blue jeep, pulling out her phone and snapping pictures-clearly entertained by this. I roll my eyes and swing my legs over the branch of the big maple tree, praying I wont fall. I step backwards until i hit the ground, and run quickly to her car. "Smooth." She chuckles when i get in the passengers seat. I lean over and kiss her freckled cheek, making the corners of her amber eyes crinkle with happiness. She pulls out of my block, heading towards the city.
We talk about everything and nothing. Mini golf courses, where balloons go, her beloved dinosaur pajamas- and then I see it. The light of the first skyscraper as we drive out of the tunnel. I roll my window down, and stick my hand out, feeling the brisk air.
I'm finally free for a while. Free from the confines of the toxic suburbs to the realm of the diverse. With her. I look back and see her smiling that beautiful smile of hers, a toothy grin that she never shows. She's so fucking beautiful, especially with the lights of the busy city reflecting in those eyes that I swear i could drown in. I look back out the window, at my hand, at her. This is where I belong.
She pulls over in a parking garage and I kiss her, as I silently tell any God that is up there that I'm sorry, but my heaven is right here.
