School went on. Nancy stayed her distance now. I was alone sometimes. Faking being happy just for my friends. Fake laugh. Fake smile. I never told Nancy of the fight. Just left it where it was.
I had received a call a year later. Nancy and myself had started going out just a little. The call was from Nico.
" Hey," it was Nico's voice on the voicemail," Just thought you would want to know that the war is over and she's gone. Nice knowing you, Percy. Try and stop by. Bye. . ."
I wanted to cry when I heard that. If Annabeth was gone, I didn't keep my promise. We never stayed together. . . we never were really together.
I loved her. Did that mean anything in the end? Anything at all?
Three years passed. I hadn't seen another demigod since. Or satyr. Or god. We won, and that's all I needed to know. I stayed that last summer to help clean up, packed my things, and that was it. I never looked back again. . . . . . . . . .
