Two boys on a Park Bench

  • Dedicated to David Levithan, and more importantly, to those who came before us and those who

Before us it was unthinkable,

Two boys on a park bench,

Noses and cheeks cold,

Hold hands while others pass

By, young and old.

Young, oh so young,

To face the kind of hate

That they could incur

From this single date.

But they do not care

What others might say,

They are in love, they are happy,

They are seizing the day.

So with racing pulses

And stomach butterflies

They lean in and kiss

Under blue skies.

Before it was unthinkable,

A total taboo,

It is still not accepted

Completely, too.

But we are moving forward

And breaking down walls

We are looking for acceptance,

Everywhere, for all.

Before us it was unthinkable,

But we have hope for the future.
