Snowthorn sat impatiently on the sidelines of the Autumn-Ends festival, waiting for it to be over. It was an extremely weird holiday, and he didn't exactly like it. Scorpion had said it was what scavengers called "Halloween" and they'd dress up in costumes and eat sweets till morning.
It made no sense. And made even less when his mother had decided to bridge it from scavenger customs to dragons'.
Barren loved it though. She loved any party, as long as she could dress up.
Snowthorn looked over and saw his sister, mother and aunt talking with Queen Ruby. The festivities this year were being held with the Skywings, between the two kingdoms in the village of Possibility.
He wished he could have stayed home, but Sunny had convinced him to come. So, for her sake he put on face paint and wrapped a few strands of coloured beads around his horns and went. He absolutely refused to where the bearskin costume she had offered him however.
Snowthorn sighed. He needed a break from all this. He got up and walked down the path, narrowly avoiding Sandwings and Skywings. Some of those that passed would bow there heads to the prince. He somewhat ignored them.
By the time he had gotten to the edge of the town he had nearly tripped on three hollowed out pumpkins with weird faces carved into them and fires inside of them, and almost got shoved into a bonfire. Everything about this holiday was just weird and wrong.
"Where are you going?"
Snowthorn stopped and turned around. Blizzard was standing there, his icy eyes looking down at his son. Behind him, one of bonfires released a huge pop and laughter sprouted from somewhere in the crowd of dusty gold and scarlet. "No where," Snowthorn replied. "Just for a walk."
Blizzard looked down at his son for a few moments in silence until he finally turned and walked away. "Be back before we leave, or your flying to the palace by yourself." He said over his shoulder.
Snowthorn snorted and stretched his wings, his talons lifting off the ground and taking flight into the chilly autumn air. The leaves on the trees below were nearly all gone, stripped off by the cold winds.
And then he saw a flash of gold.
It wasn't a leaf, he was too high up for leaves to be blown up here, and it was WAY bigger than a leaf. He dove down to investigate.
He landed in a small clearing with a few evergreens dotting the edge. Sitting under one of the dark spruces was what looked to be a golden statue of a Skywing, with emerald horns and sapphire spines and claws.
But then the statue moved.
It was then that Snowthorn realized, this wasn't a statue at all. It was an actual dragon. It turned its golden head towards him and stared down at the prince with Crimson coloured eyes. Snowthorn took a step back, unsure of what to do. This dragon was really...unusual was the first word that came to mind. It's scales entirely made of gold, it looked like a walking pile of treasure.
"Are you just going to stare at me, or do you want something?" Snowthorn jumped as the words left the dragons mouth.
"I-I..." he stuttered. "I don't want anything. I was just walking. I'll go now. Have a nice night!"
The dragon frowned. "Wait, I didn't mean to be rude, it's just..." The dragon sighed and rubbed its temples. "I'm just tired. That party in the town has been keeping me up all night. It's pretty ridiculous if you ask me."
Snowthorn snorted. Finally, a dragon he could relate to! "I know! I could be sleeping in my room back at the palace right now, but of course! My mother and Queen Ruby decide to have a weird scavenger custom party."
The golden dragon looked a bit confused. "What Tribe are you from? You talk like a Skywing, and you look like an albino Sandwing."
Snowthorn shrugged. "Sandwing Icewing hybrid. No Skywing though."
The golden Skywing's eye ridges raised in surprise. "A hybrid?" He said, astonished.
"Um...yeah. Wait-" Snowthorn flicked his barbed tail. "I thought it was common knowledge that the three royal Sandwing children were hybrids. How do you not know?"
The dragon shifted on its talons. "I've...been avoiding dragons for awhile. My name is Golden Glory."
Golden Glory. The name rang in his for a few moments.
"Are..." Snowthorn began slowly. "Are you that Skywing prince who disappeared mysteriously before Scarlett's rule?"
Golden Glory hesitated... and nodded.
"I'm Snowthorn," said the hybrid prince. Snowthorn looked around. "Do...you want to come back with me? Its getting pretty lonely at the party."
Golden Glory chuckled. "Your lonely surrounded by hundreds of dragons?"
Snowthorn snorted. "It's complicated."
"No, no, I understand completely." Laughed the golden Skywing prince. "I wasn't the biggest fan of parties either. Sure, I'll go back with you. I might not stay very long though."
Golden Glory stood up and walked up beside Snowthorn. Together they walked back to the part, the lights of the jack-o-lanterns (was that what they were called?) flickered through the trees.
"By the way," Golden Glory asked, "What on earth is on your face?"
